Rom 9:19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
Rom 9:20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Rom 9:22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
Rom 9:23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

It's a covenant thing. Like a contract. Abraham had one, like a handshake deal. Moses had a written aggrement, with lots of fine print. Jesus had one, signed in blood.
The historical figures you mention, tested God, and were tested. They are given as examples. The Jews weren't the only ones who sacrificed animals, wrote laws, or waited for a messiah. They were the first to pass the test, and to accept God as He Is. (some of them).
It's rather dogmatic; if you have to test, you've already failed the faith exam. But that's ok, you can schedule a make-up exam.

Yep, that's the way mythology works after all.
In the book of fairy tales, he does all kinds of interesting (and utterly impossible) stuff like flooding the planet (no evidence whatsoever of a worldwide flood) making bushes burn without being consumed (a direct violation of the rules of thermodynamics) and other such fanciful stories.
Yet these days, when people ask why the "miracles" have stopped, they play the faith card.
Utter cop-out.
After all, god is only real in the book of bronze-age jewish mythology that they quote. No where else does he exist.

Because the whole purpose of the "tests" in the bible is to give people examples of what god has done in the past so that they can just blindly put their faith in this god because he's already been tested.
It's like a kid trying to convince his parents that he's done his homework when he hasn't..... He tells his parents "Oh you don't have to check it.... that's alright..... I really did it! Don't worry!" That's basically what the bible is....a bunch of stories to make people believe in something that doesn't exist without having to test their theories. Why test something that their book teaches them is "true?"

The Egyptians and Baal worshipers were pagans. It's normal for pagans to tempt God (their father, Satan, does it all the time), but for believers (Israel in this case) it is a big sin. The others are going to hell anyway, so what's one more sin?

People love tests, and persist in believing that they prove something about the one being tested.
