They are (obviously) Puerto Rican and I'm Greek but am sick of making them Greek food and would like to try a hand at Puerto Rican cuisine. Any ideas?

yes. rice & beans is the main side dish for puerto ricans & you can make it w/ the meat of your choice. ALso make tostones. They are plantains that are fried twice & smashed flat along the way. Here is a great site w/ recipes. Good Luck!!

I am Irish , but dated a Puerto Rican, and learned a little bit, I love a Paella. Oddly she made hers out of a box( Check the Goya Aisle) or look for a good recipe from food tv.com or google Paella. I did my first from scratch, she was impressed. i am looking for a Paella pan when I get home from Afghanistan so I can make more. Yummy.

Don't cook to impress them. Cook to impress yourself. Tostones & amarillos are wonderful, but they're a good bit of work. Try looking for a Cuban cookbook at your favourite bookstore. That may sound a little odd, but I've found that the Cuban flavours suit my family a little better, and they're not as big a pain to make. Paella is similar to ciappino. You'll love it, or it will scare the heck out of you.
