What Muslims do and what Islam teaches are two different things. I'll answer your question point by point.

Yes, in many Muslim countries it is mandatory to was a heasdscarf or some other modest clothing. While such may be mandatory by Islam, "there is no compulsion in religion" and they have no right to force any women to wear a scarf. Yet they do.

According to Islam, women can go places and hang out with friends, they just cannot travel without a male companion. This is for the protection of the woman. Some extremists have just extended the definition of travelling to suit their fancy.

Despite popular belief, I man cannot divorce a women by simply declaring it four times. Men and women both hold the right to divorce and it is followed by a ceremony and a three month waiting period, both to find out if the woman is pregnant and to perhaps allow the couple to work it out. The divorce process works the same for both men and women.

Polygamy in Islam is allowed when only necesarry, not just to make you happy. You must be able to care for both and love both equally. If you wife is barren, and you really want children, you can take another wife instead of divorcing her. Women cannot have more than one husband for several reasons: keeping up with the both of them would surely tire her, and if she became pregnant, how would one know the paternity of the child?

In Islam, women are equal with men, not the same as men. Big difference.

Women are men's human, social, intellectual, and spiritual equals. They are not less human, less important, less valuable than men because they're female. If there are men who contend they (men) are inherently superior because they're male, then they don't need women, and should just leave them alone.

Men, like women, came out of the wombs of their mothers as helpless, newborn infants and raised to adulthood. Both have minds with which to think, reason, and exercise self-control. Your comparing the west's modern moral behavior to Islam, and not really whether Islam is sexist or not. In fact, Islam introduced the right of women to inherit, something not permitted in some western countries until the 20th century. California in the US was one of the first (if not the first) state with community rights for husband and wife because they got it from the Spaniards, who in turn got it from the Muslims.

There are non-Muslim countries that do not approve of public displays of affection, and some westerns don't either. This has nothing to do with religion but with culture and upbringing. The reason a man can have 4 wives (and so can men of other religions, including Judaism, in Islamic lands) is that there is no doubt of the maternity of a child, but if there are 4 husbands, the paternity of the child would be in question (prior to DNA checking today).

Women in Muslim countries do hang out with other women, and in some of them, they also hang out with men. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and a few others are strict about male-female socializing. There are historical and cultural reasons for this. That part of the world was highly influenced by British Victorianism. But if you go to North Africa, you will find that this is not the case. One of the sweetest sites I saw in Morocco was an elderly Muslim couple walking hand in hand. You will not find this in Saudi Arabia, but they are both Muslim countries.

Divorce is easier for men in Islam, but it is also possible for women, especially those that follow the Maliki school of thought. Divorce is quite high in Morocco, in fact, and usually initiated by the woman.

Personally, I was raised in the US in a non-religious home. I'm a Jew, but we were not allowed to socialize with guys not related to us when I was growing up, and I still don't approve of most public displays of affection. It's indecent and has nothing at all to do with religion but with taste.
