Yellowtail are pound for pound the hardest fighting fish you could ask for. Put any fish at an equal weight with the yellowtail and the yellowtail will win. I don't care what anyone says, yellowtail pull the hardest. And no not those dinky yellowtail snapper on the east coast, I'm talking about cali yellowtail!

Foul hooked 40 pound bluefin tuna on 20 pound line. Took an hour because I couldn't turn it toward me, but I finally got it.

Or actually, the "best" from the fish's point of view was a yellowfin tuna of unknown size (probably 80-120 pounds) which just took all my 30 pound line and kept going.

I was totally amazed by a 3 pound bluefish once. They are a hard fighting fish and I can't even imagine catching one that goes 20 -30 pounds.

However I did catch a 23 pound COBIA (ling Cod) that also was a real bull dog to bring in and he beat the hell out of the livewell once he was onboard. Lots of fun and great eating!!

Well, Sunday i caught a 9 lb bass on 5 lb test line, that was tricky. Every time he started running i let him go because i knew how big he was. He jumped up adn i said Holy S**t! that was a BIG bass. I got him in after several mintues of fighting hima dn wearing him out.

I believe the toughest fish I have ever caught was a carp. I think I was about 5 years old. It was about as tall as I was at the time.

Yeah I am right there with you on the cobia, caught one that was 371/2 inches on a cane pole, went out with a guide that always used 18 ft cane poles with heavy line and a wire leader. That much fish with no drag made for a hell of a fight! It still took nearly 30 min to tire him out enough to bring him in the boat.

5lb smallmouth bass. I thought for sure I had a new world record fish. Pound for pound one of the most demanding fights from a fish I have ever had

Longest fight was a 70-lb. sailfish on a 20-lb. mono line. 70 minutes of hard work.

Most difficult was a 25-lb. dolphinfish that hit my dead squid (on a 12-lb line), then hit my buddy's dead squid (on a 10 lb. line). We had to practice a new Olympic sport--synchronized fishing--for 50 minutes!
