just because you aren't a 'people person' doesn't mean you are autistic in any way.
some people just don't like to talk much for no other reason then just not liking it. its a shame your relatives have reacted like that and although it must be hurtful its their problem for not understanding you not yours.

are you happy to 'talk' to people through emails? because if you are that could be quite a useful way for you to communicate to loved ones without having to make yourself feel uncomfortable

Well, generally people with autism are diagnosed around 3 years old, perhaps younger...so you should relieve yourself of that thought. No longer should you suspect this, since autism is quite obvious in young children, and you apparently did not display the symptoms around that time.

However, you COULD be an aspie, that is, a person with Asperger's Syndrome, which is generally considered to be a form of High-functioning Autism, and can be diagnosed around any age.

Yet simply preferring not to talk or perhaps even feeling withdrawn are not valid reasons to assume that you are any of these things, although there is nothing to be concerned about if you are. Yet the Asperger's label encompasses a variety of symptoms that must be present in order to receive a formal diagnosis.

Research Asperger's and then decide if you wish to speak with a professional, but remember that Asperger's is not something to be perceived as dreadful and shameful, rather, take pride in your uniqueness.

You also may have another psychological 'condition,' or perhaps you may simply not be the type of person who enjoys social contact. Who knows?

I hope this helps.

Perhaps you don't have autism, perhaps you aren't a people person because your family critisized you.

Anyway, some characteristics of autism are not having eye-contact, liking one subject with an intense interest, bluntness, poor social skills, and over or undersensitvity to pain.

As for a "cure", you could try looking for autism support groups that can help with social skills. And, autism, depending on which kind you have, is actually good in some aspects. http://www.aspirations.info/aspergerssyndrome.html#positive
Some people don't think there should be a cure for autism and that autism is a gift http://www.angelfire.com/space2/autism/

I have often wondered the same thing about myself but autism goes a lot deeper than not wanting to talk to people. Autistic people don't communicate properly because they don't understand emotion and the world they live in. Autistic people tend to also shown signs of obsessive compulsion because it helps bring order and structure to their lives.

There is a lot more to autism than not talking to people, just like other posters have said.

Since none of us know you, we cannot give you a diagnosis over the internet. Please see a psychologist or counselor for more information. They will ask you questions to help you figure out what is going, and also give you recommendations.

Just try to calm down
do not worry about autism
I also do not like to talk to so many people
Just be yourself and enjoy life as you like it
