i didn't realize it, but my driver's license has been expired for a year and now i don't know if it is too late to get it renewed. if i go to the dmv will they make me pay a fine? or will i have to take my driver's test and/or permit test again? what do i do?

Now that it is expired, you will need to take the written exam again. Check with your DMV I believe that is the same for most states. Its only a phone call away, look up DMV and give them a call.

There is no fine, as long as you are not caught driving.

The fees will be the normal ones whenever you get a new license, and you won't have to take the test again unless it's the usual time to do it.

Since you have a license, you don't ever use a permit again. You have already proven you can drive.

You contact the office that handles drivers license in your state or country and ask. They will have the correct answer for you. While you are there, don't forget to update your address, they obviously don't have your current one or you would have received the notice reminding you it was time to renew.
