Is there such a thing as too much therapy? I have often wondered because I was in therapy for 5 years for major depression, and although it did help me in many ways.....I also found myself unable to take things he would say with a grain of salt, and that caused a lot of problems in my relationships. It would be, but Jim said this...and Jim said that. It took me a long, long time to finally realize what I had done. I just always thought this was perhaps a result of too much therapy. Every week for 5 years is a lot! I rave about clinical psychologists because I believe they are the best, but should my therapist have stopped me after a couple of years or so? He certainly didn't seem like money was the factor.,,,I think he really does care about me. Thanks everyone.

A person goes to therapy for several set periods of sessions. If the therapist thinks you should still be there and you still think that you should go to the therapist than you have both decided what would be best for you. I mean I have gone to therapy for a lot long than you have and one day I did excactly what my therapist was waiting for even though I still have issues to work on Im not as sick as I once was. Its an individual thing. No one can really say ok you should be cured and not have to work on any problems in x amount of years and it be done and all good in those years because people heal and learn at their own time.
I guess what Im trying to say is its up to you to decide whats best for you. Not anyone else but the therapist can help with you on making your decision.
If you think you are ready schedule appointments less often to see how things go to make sure you are ready.

First of all, how do YOU feel about all this therapy? If you feel you have a need for continued therapy then maybe it is more on your side as a need not a medical necessity.
Sometimes we get used to our lives a certain way... perhaps you are in the comfort zone of a regular therapist to chat with.
If you would like to sort out your life and not continue to go to therapy for 'ever' then I would suggest you find out more about energy therapy such as Emotional Freedom Techniques.
EFT will help you help yourself in a quick and drug free way so that you will not continue to be dependent on regular therapy. You can find out more from these sites below.

A really good therapist will be able to equip you with the tools to go on in the world and help your self, they will in essence "heal you" or your demons. However long this takes, is however long this takes. I say "Larry said this and Larry said that" a lot and those who are with me understand my reverence for the man who turned my life around. You should be greatful and look up to the person who helped you get on with your life, and when we are really excited about the wonderful things that someone is doing for us, we talk about it a lot. Those who you were with should have understood your excitement at getting better and seeking to understand yourself.

try cutting back to every other week or once a month. See how you feel then. If your depression persists then go back to your old schedule.
