Jehovah's Witnesses are probably best known for their person-to-person ministry. Each congregation tries to reach all the people in its neighborhood with a brief Bible message at least once a year. This is usually done by Witnesses visiting from door to door. Witnesses will also talk to people on the streets, in parks and in other public places—wherever someone can be found who has a spiritual interest and a few minutes to talk. This approach is the same as that used by Jesus Christ and his apostles.

The apostle Paul, for example, said, "I did not hold back . . . from teaching you publicly and from house to house."—Acts 20:20.

Sometimes it's surprising just how much bitterness and hate is directed toward a people that are only interested in the welfare of others. It is a commandment from Jehovah and His Son, Christ Jesus to "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And,look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things." Matt.28:19,20. We have such a love for mankind in general, that we are ready and willing to put up with the abuse and persecution we receive, in order to find people who are sighing and groaning about the horrible conditions in this system of things. We are not at your door to bother you. Maybe you've had a situation come up in your life where you would welcome some comfort from the scriptures. (Death of a loved one, etc.) If we didn't come to your door with a message of hope from the Bible, you might think that no one cares, including God! Nothing could be further from the truth! It's exciting to see someones face light up when they learn a Bible truth for the very first time. So, the next time we knock on your door, be assured that we're only there to help.

Every true Christian should preach the good news. It seems that the only ones who do that are the Jehovah's Witnesses.

"Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit." -- Matthew 28:19

Some people might say that this disciple-making work was performed by Jesus and the apostles and that there is no need to be done in our days. But is that true? Let's consider what the Bible says.

"... And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” -- Matthew 28:20

"And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." -- Matthew 24:14

The good news must pe preached until the end of this system so that people from all nations might gain an accurate knowledge.

"This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God,whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth." -- 1 Thimothy 2:3,4

Yes, there's nothing wrong with going door to door. We used to do this every week when I was a young Christian and so did many other churches in town. We systematically covered the town and especially targeted newcomers. A lot of people were led to the Lord on those nights and the church grew because of our visits. Today, the culture is not so conducive to this type of thing because people don't want to be bothered at home and it's become dangerous. Also, it's hard to find people at home. Now, we witness as we go about our everyday lives. Or we have revivals and invite others to come through personal invitation or advertisement. Vacation Bible School is another way we make contact with the unchurched and through the youth department. The Great Commission is directed to the Christian "as he goes on his way". We are to be ready to give an account of the hope that lies within us at any given moment and that could be in the grocery line or at the car wash. It's not as important to have a program as it is to look for opportunities to share the faith. That's where we fail so often because opportunities are all around us every day.

First comment above:
"And I have absolutely zero respect for people like this."

So she has no respect for Christ and the Apostles?

According to the History Channel, every religion has tried house to house work at one time or another, and failed. Even the Mormons mostly have to make it a requirement of young men before marriage. You never see young women doing it. Most recently, the Muslims have promoted the idea of doing the house to house work, sighting the surceases of the Jehovah's Witnesses as a reason for it.

the JW go door to door, by mail,by phone, even right know by internet with some individuals in this page, And yes alot other religious have tried it..and mormons do it the first two years and when there young but you dont see women preaching...but the Jehovah Witnesses you see has young has children and even old age still preaching...and its volunteer work every time they do that they dont get paid nor a salary its free...the donations they ask you are for the magazines and books to get published thats how that gets paid for the print shops at Bethel NY...but indivualdual preach cause they love their neighbor...and they want to give them hope and answers for the near future of this system this world and the new system or world here in the paradise. Cause they live in a spiritual paradise in there congragations, assemblies ect cause they live in harmony with themselves and brothers of the faith,,,,they dont go to wars..they dont enroll in the military...they dont run for government position on politics...they dont vote...cause there government is higher and that God and his son JesusCrist and they do believe Jesus is there savor...thats why they preach...they do however pay taxes...and respect the law of the land...but they wont kill or go to war cause then they will be killing there brothers....so the Jehovah Witnesses they knock at your to not to convert you...but to answer your questions of the bible with your bible...and to help you read your bible and for you to become a better person with God...and then you decide if you want to change...its you who changes not them change you....

the method jesus used, the apostles, paul etc........what alternative did they have back then, they couldn't distribute pamphlets, firstly it wasn't possible, secondly very few could read at the time, and the vernacular tongue was pretty diverse.

i do agree that it is a chrsitians obligation, well not even an obligation,it is more a gift to proclaim the gospel to others,it should be done and is thankfully easier to do now using all the mediams we now have, t.v,radio, internet etc........but as in the time of jesus and thereafter people will persecute and laugh at those who proclaim the word of god, done in biblical times and isn't set to change anytime soon.

i have nothing against the jw churchs practice in going door to door etc.....some do go overboard but oh well, but i don't think they are preaching the same message as jesus or his followers,no offence to any of the jws but that is my humble opinion. god bless.

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness, but I respect their beliefs as I do any other religious denomination. I personally share the belief in witnessing to others of what we believe to be the truth. In the Book of Mormon (Yes, I'm a Mormon) in Mosiah 18:9 it says that those who enter the fold of God (meaning His true Church) should be "willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—"

God bless you

In those days I dont think the Bible was published yet, Now today we have the Bible available in almost any language.

I find Jehovah witnesses do not have the same Bible as the majority of christians. We know that only Jesus Christ saves, so I have a problem with them peddling salvation.

I see JW's around my neighborhood and in my apt. complex, they have yet to show up at my door (11/2 yrs). I haven't talked to them, and I've seen them 2 doors down at least 3 times, talking to the same good-looking blond.

I am not a JW. But I do witness quite a bit to people online. They talk about it more online than they do out in public. That's why I am here.
