Some are motivated by fear...
Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
The fear a born again believer has is reverent awe...not a scared fear.

Why not? I grew up on a farm, and I loved the thunderstorms. On the other hand, they also brought tornadoes and hail and could destroy everything we built. We loved them, wanted them, and at the same time feared them. If we have grounds like that with a creation, how much more so the Creator?
The absence of a fear of Hell can only come to someone who either believes that they can't go to Hell due to some sectarian doctrine or thinks he's got it all together. I don't, and when I think about death, it spurs me on. I still have a ways to go, and I really don't like the prospect of Hell. I look forward to death but dread it simultaneously similar to how I do with the thunderstorm.

I can't say I'm motivated by the fear of Satan, I only fear God. As long as you take refuge in God, Satan can't harm you. I think it's even slightly blasphemous to say that you fear Satan. One should only fear God. I don't mean to offend, just think about it :)

I'm motivated by love. The God of love has revealed the truth to me through the medium of His Holy Spirit. Because I love Him, I want to do good. I know that by overcoming this world, repenting continually, believing in His Son Jesus Christ, and enduring to the end, I glorify my Father which is in Heaven. All glory be to the Father forever and ever. Amen.
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)

If I were a drug runner I'd fear. Probably pray for God's grace, but there would be loads of fear.
I don't follow God out of fear of being tossed into the pitts of Hell.

The message of Hell is propagated for profit by some religion institutions. There is a lot many in keeping pepople in fear and guilt. not to mention the preeminence one can feel with having the 'answers' (one is seen as wise in the ways of God and therefore must be close to God when in law). Grace sets us free and gives us a revelation of our value and equality. For an institution to survive it needs to be needed ( a business can only survive if people believe they need its product or services) Sounds critical but Grace Just ain't good for business. I think people in the congregation buy into it because it so appeals to our human nature of doing in order to be approved of - we grew up with it from our parents, if we did good we got good - if we did bad we got whacked or got the naughty seat But praise God the truth of the Gospel is returning stronger and stronger and the rising sun is getting brighter unto the perfect day.

yes, fear was the first motivator, but not of the devil, but of the lord.he is the one with the up or down button.
proverbs 1:7..the fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools dispise wisdom and instruction.proverbs11:21..be sure of this, the wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.

We are to fear God... such a thing is respect.....
Fear is experience.... if we had not known death, how would we fear it?...... And how do you teach someone who has learned it, that it is nothing to fear? Experience says that there are millions of ways to die...... We do not know how or when, but we need not focus on it to live.... we must live.... Else we die every day thinking on it......
Fear you God.... and live.... everyday... to its fullest!

Ginger
