People usually ask from God what they want more, or what they are lacking in. It could be anything - part of materialistic world, or the spirtual world. It could be money, fame, strantgh, wisdom, etc.
People ask for different things under different conditions. Let me tell you something about most likely things, that we should ask for under a few circumstances:
1> Lonliness: Ask Him to make sure, that every single living being in this world finds a companion.
2> Poverty: Ask for the strength and the wisdom to manage in whatever we have, and let every other being in the world get what is required for survival.
3> Despair: Ask Him to give every other being the wisdom to understand what is beneficial for him, wisdom to understand what is good, an opportunity to act accordingly, and the strength to stick to his actions.
4> Sorrow: Ask Him to give us the strength and the opportunity so that we can wipe some one else's tears.
5> Happiness: Let it spread like wild fire throughout the world.
6> Love: Let everyone enjoy the bliss of pure love.
7> Success: Let the whole world benefit from our success, and let the whole world succeed in creating a better harmony within themesleves.
8> Kindness: Allow us to be kind not only to ourselves, but towards each and every creation of His.
9> Fame: Give us the strength so that we can make significant contributions towards this world, and lead as an example. Give us the strength and wisdom so that we can earn our own respect and that we can respect each and every being in this world.
You could add some suggestions too.
All the best...

If anyone could answer that question, let it be you....
Let it be him who needs counsel......
For in each of us, the individual, is a voice by which we should reason with God.... Not that any should tell us what to say, or what to do, or how to do it.... We may have a ground for understanding the "how to".... but no one can speak to God from the heart like any individual I know than the one who need speak to Him......
Ask Him what you will..... He knows each of us individually..... and when He answers you..... It will most likely appear in your dreams.......
Dreams speak the same language that God does... because we are in the image of God spiritually.... and the spiritual side of man is seen in the dream....... He will see us there... and will speak to us there... ((Numbers 12:6))
Your sister,
Ginger,
((dream interpreter for over 20 years))

Dear Lord Krishna kindly remove your glaring effulgence so we can kindly see your beautiful smiling face. Those who have seen the light in a near death experience have not seen the full picture as a man who has never seen a train and goes to a train station at night sees a glaring light coming Fourth says I saw the train it is a big shining light is not in full knowledge. The Hare Krishna Maha Mantra is a Prayer saying Dear Energy of the Lord Hare Dear Supreme Lord Krishna Kindly engage me in your loving devotional service. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare. This prayer is beyond all mundane prayers and conceptions. It is the Goal it is Absolute Sound as is Om but Om takes millions of lifetime to realize the ultimate goal of life and that Om is also Krishna. Write me for web site for all info on the mantras, especially the maha mantra and om. Also Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada- tells the Absolute goal and what to ask for.

I like what Princess said, that is a nice spiritual realization - God doesn't owe us anything, we owe Him. As we are His eternal servants, we should ask forgiveness for forgetting our real position and trying to lord over his creation, pretending to be gods ourselves. We should pray to Him to help us remember our loving relationship with Him and engage us in devotional service unto Him.

Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
That's how we get peace with God. Once we have committed ourselves to Him, we have peace with him. After that, I find it quite rewarding to talk to him just like I would talk to anyone. With respect and as if he were in the same room with me. Or in the car with me.

There is no need to ask. God is always answering but many are to busy dreaming about a future heaven or something else to listen. ~ : )

Ask not, what God should do for us, but what should we do for God! After all, has he not given us everything - life everlasting through Jesus? If there is one thing we should ask from God, then it is forgiveness - forgiveness for not loving him as we should, forgiveness for pride, forgiveness for greed, forgiveness for thinking we can make it without him.

Knowledge, wisdom, patience, long-suffering...the list goes on and on...
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.KJV

Well, I would not ask for peace and harmony, I mean come on!
If he cannot figure out we need that already, then why is he called the almighty?
I would ask him what took him so long to turn up?
