Ozz: I'm asking about women, not men.

Yes askmuslim, I have read the Quran. I tried to find where it specifically says that "women" should receive the highest possible education possible. Now I see you said that there is no such thing, there is no gender bias. So please tell your fellow muslims like ProudMuslima, that there is no such thing in the Quran.

My friend have you ever read the Holy Quran?

FYI:
Qur'an encourages the pursuit of knowledge by all Muslims (Submitters) regardless of their sex. It repeatedly commands all believers to read, to recite, to think, to contemplate, as well as to learn from the signs of God surrounding us in nature. In fact, the very first revelation to Prophet Muhammad was "READ" and the second revelation talked about God who teaches the people by the "PEN". In either case no gender is advocated, the order is for everyone.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'The searching of knowledge is incumbent for every Muslim (male and female).'

There are some verses that talk about the importance of education but they do not specify the gender. But the entire Quran is written in that way so do you think women should just ignore any part that does not address them specifically? Of course they are talking about both men and women! And there are other hadith that support that. There was one about the reward of giving a slave-girl education, too.

Even by simply looking at the life of Aisha, it can be seen how much islam values education for women also. She taught the Quran to both men and women and was responsible for recording over 200 hadith.

The Quran gives women much more rights than the Bible did. There is even a verse in the Quran that describes how women went to the Prophet (pbuh) to argue their case and he accepted them. They are even allowed to argue with the Prophet while the Bible says they should be silent in the church.
"As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." (I Corinthians 14:34-35)

And oh yeah in response to your other question where you said that there is no thankfulness to Allah in islam, your answer is ridiculously false. You have only shown you ignorance and lack of understanding of islam. Thanking God for his blessings is a very large part of islam

A Woman in Islam Has the Right to Get an Education
In the words of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW):

"To seek knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim."

Muslim here meaning male and female Muslims, as women are the twin halves of men. The Prophet (SAW) also said:

"Whoever follows a way to seek knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a way to paradise."

A woman in Islam has the right to knowledge and education. Allah (SWT) encourages women to read and keep up the learning process. He also bestows His mercy upon all who seek knowledge, and gives them high status:

"Is one who is obedient to Allah, prostrating himself or standing (in prayer) during the hours of the night, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the Mercy of his Lord (like one who disbelieves)? Say: "Are those who know equal to those who know not?" It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allah’s Signs and Verses). (Az-Zumar 39:9)

"O you who believe! When you are told to make room in the assemblies, (spread out and) make room. Allah will give you (ample) room (from His Mercy). And when you are told to rise up (for prayers, Jihad, or for any other good deed), rise up. Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do. (Al-Mujadilah 58:11)

This is referring to religious knowledge, in the first place, and to any other kind of knowledge, in the second place, where one has the intention of benefiting herself, her family and the Islamic society. Additionally, a husband should not forbid his wife from going out of the house to seek basic religious knowledge, unless he is teaching her at home. The Quran advises mankind to pray:

"Then High above all be Allah, the True King. And be not in haste [O Muhammad (SAW)] with the Quran before its revelation is completed to you, and say: My Lord! Increase me in knowledge." (Ta-Ha 20:114)

I watched a documentary about girls in Afghanistan who went to an underground school (because girls there can't go to real schools) and learned programming - ON A BLACKBOARD. Without a computer.

It was heart wrenching.
