I've always been interested in City Planning, and I was wondering if anyone could think of there being any connection between the two?

I personally feel the two are a great match. I currently work as an Electrical Code Official in the building department for a municipality. The more skills and knowledge you have to offer to an organization, the more valuable you will be to them.

I spend 50% of my time on technical issues, and the other 50% of my time on operational and administrative issues.

I say go for it...

You would get no use of your EE knowledge working as a city planner. City planning, practically speaking, is the review of new development plans submitted for approval by others and the determination of whether the plans meet the codes and requirements of the city.

Cities don't usually plan anyway. They are always behind the growth cycle fighting to catch up with the growth.

Does that mean you already have an EE degree? Since City Planning deals almost entirely with people flow and people demands I would expect there to be very little crossover with the slight exception if you happened to have courses or experience in power distribution and usage.
