I'm not a LDS, but I can answer you from the Bible.
This verse is referring to Jewish ceremonial laws (Mosaic laws), which we are not required to keep, even though a lot of them are healthy suggestions. (You know... like bathing regularly and not eating pork...) We are only required to keep God's Laws (the 10 Commandments).
1 Corinthians 10:31 says:
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
This means that if anything is bad for us, we should not partake of it. Christians are living examples, and should therefore take the best care of themselves. Christian's bodies are the "temple of the Holy Spirit."

Well, you make a judgement that isn't correct. The LDS church does not judge anyone. Christ will be our Judge. It is however up to all of us to determine how we are going to live our lives. The Word of Wisdom was given as a principle and a promise to us that if any of us follow it, we will run and not be weary and walk and not faint.
People are welcome to keep on smoking cigarettes or any other thing they make the choice to do, but the Mormon Church and most likely your doctor as well would proscribe a healthy lifestyle. That isn't judgemental, it is sound advice.
Additionally, this is new revelation. You probably know that Mormons do not believe that the word of the Lord has stopped. There are yet "many great and important things pertaining to the kingdom of God" that will be revealed when the time is appropriate.
I could also argue that this Collossians verse is specifically intended for those who belong to the Mormon Church today, cautioning us to not let others tell us that our belief in what is healthful to eat and drink is not correct.

The Word of Wisdom is for our health.
The Word of Wisdom is not suppose to be a judgement thing it is suppose to help our mind and body be healthier.
I think we are misunderstanding this verse because it also states "Let no man judge you...in respect of an Holyday.... or of the sabbath day."
Gos Himself told us to keep the Sabbath Day holy. Most Christian religins agree to kep the Sabbath Day holy.
I think it means more do not judge others that do not do these things. I feel it means that these may be right but do not judge others that believe differently.

What is often refered to as the Word of Wisdom (which is Section 89 of the Doctrine of Covenants; the Church has the scriptures on-line, and I've linked to that specific section at the end of my comments if you're interested in reading it) contains two types of instruction:
#1: What we should take into our bodies. This tells us our diet should contain mostly whole grains, fruit, and vegetables, with meat being consumed "sparingly" (some nutritionists today, reguardless of their religious beliefs, tell us very much the same thing).
#2: What we should NOT take into our bodies. This includes tobbacco (an treatment for bruises, and, as any vetrinarian will tell you, a treatment for sick cattle), alcohol (used for external cleaning of the body), and what's called "hot drinks" (when Joseph Smith was later asked to clarify that term, he said it referred specifically to coffee and tea).
Those things in #2 have often been linked in recent years to health problems in people (i.e. tobbacco causes cancer, while alcohol destroys the liver). Another reason is that a basic tenant of Mormon beliefs is that we have what's called "free agency" (aka "free will"). Such things cause addictions (which at the very least don't provide any benefits to the body, and at the worst...well, go read the first sentence of this paragraph again), and strip away some of that free agency. Just take a look at people who "need" coffee to get going in the morning, or who "have" to go outside for a smoke.

Word of wisdom.... it is because our body is our temple and the temple of the Holly Spirit and we have to take care of our body and do nothing to harm itl; things like drugs, smoke and alcohol harm our body and makes us addicted and we shouldn't be addicted to anything but God's love.
We don't drink coffee because coffee is addictive and we don't want to depend on something. There are some people that if they don't drink coffee they would have migraine and would feel very bad, etc... we avoid that to happen to us :)
God revealed to Joseph Smith that we have to avoid some kind of food and drinks and that he will bless us if we follow this rule. On Lev. 10:9 it says that we shouldn't drink wine, it says it in Isaac 24:9 and in D&C 29:18-21 it says that we will have blessings if we follow the word of wisdom.
The word of wisdom is one of my favorite things about the church. This is so true.
LDS!!! :)

All the positive replies given by fellow LDS are correct, but bear in mind man did not give us the Word of Wisdom to follow; it was Jesus Christ Himself that gave us this wisdom to follow for our benefit.
The Lord gave this Word of Wisdom through revelation to Joseph Smith. We accepted him as our first latter-day prophet and we accept the Lord's admonition to follow it. That's all I need to know.

THere are a lot of Bible verses like this that teach against Mormon Belief. It is just another example of things being taught that doo not mesh with the Bible. I can give another example - the LDS church teaches you can be come a god, but there is only one god as in Isa 43:10 and Isa:44:8 but well done for you for carrying out investigations.
