I also like to play around with electronics and the best way to find things is your local dump, you would be surprised at the good things that people throw away, but it may be a little demeaning to be pulling things out of a dump for some people. Another way is to join Freecycle if you have a computer, people list all kinds of things they want to give away and you can also ask for old electronic stuff.
