Buy a domestic brand. Despite what others will tell you you can get a good used American car. Also you'll get more car for the money because they are usually cheaper than imports. With any used car make sure you have it checked by a mechanic before you buy.

You can get a nice Ford Taurus for that kind of money. Parts are cheap and they have a high safety rating (five stars.) And they are dependable. A lot of car for the money. Most japanese cars will have more miles in this price range.

i suggest japanese cars for many reasons. my family bought a used german VW and it's a piece of ****. i spent sooo much $$ trying to fix it. I had to fix the fuel pump which costed $400, for a japanese car it's about a $100. so yea japanese parts are a lot cheaper and it's a lot easier to find a mechanic to fix japanese cars, i've had trouble finding mechanics who can fix my VW. a good japanese car can last 200,000 - 300,000 miles. american car parts even cheaper than japanese cars and their not bad but after 100,000 they start having problems. it also depends on the car's history, what kind of accidents it had and such. new cars, i suggest researching and see customer reviews of newly car owners. if will give you a better idea of the perticular year and make.
