Look how many sects and denominations of Christianity, as well as other religions there are. Any of them speaking a different language on how to reach salvation, represented by the tower reaching the sky, or heavens. Not one of them can understand each other.
It is a parable.

All I know is that when I meet someone who thinks this (and the other biblical myths) are factual, I just pat them on the head and slowly but carefully put as much space between them and myself as I can.

What I find especially disturbing are the morons who think not only that a whale can swallow a human whole, but even that the swallowed human could survive inside!!!

And PS: I am *NOT* saying that the bible is devoid of fact. I'm saying that there are many stories in there that cannot POSSIBLY be true.

If you study Middle Eastern history you will find the site is believed to be just north of the ancient Assyrian kingdom.
The diversity of the languages is quite possible why cuneiform writing developed.

I dont know about not literal. I have always wondered why he broke one group of people up into mmmmaannnnnnyyyyy groups of people, of whom he knew that all those little groups would get huge anyway and do what the one group was trying to do in the first place.
