I am a muslim female who dress like the average american female..recently I have accepted Islam as the faith that I want to follow. I think the Quran is so beautiful and confirms what has been revealed in pervious books. Why is that when I say that I am muslim and read the Quran that other muslims call me kafir because I don't accept hadith? Why can't I be muslim and not dress in hijab or the traditonal muslimah dress that they consider me not muslim?

If you can answer me ...then this would be geat!

The people that you speak of are following culture not Islam.

Yes you should read hadith but the Quran over rides it every time.

Not all Muslimah wear hijab or traditional dress- instead they just dress modestly (nothing tight)

Just continue to read the Quran and pray Allah will guide you on the rest.

Assalamu alaikum warahmastullahi wabarakatuh Dear a new comer muslimah. You are welcome as a new muslimah.May God always bless you and show you the right path and will strengthen your faith.in Islam.
You can dress what you like the average american female as long as your privy is not seen by other such as your breast
.The seen breast will invite satan through the bad behaviour guys. You are not a kafir now you are a good muslimah or muslim woman although you do not read yet hadith.
But you must know that the life guide for muslims including muslimahs are (1) the holy Qur'an and (2) the hadith as an explanation by Muhammad pbuh in the implementation of the holy Qur'an.As a new comer you are good to read one of them that is the holy Qur'an and you understand its meaning
You believe in Allah the only one God and Muhammad pbuh as the last messenger of Allah. that is the best way for you.Yes Qur'an is logical and beautiful and it confirms and corrects the holy books before Qur'an those are Torach and Bible..After you understand Qur'an step by step it is better if you read also hadith. You do not need to wear hijab or traditional muslimah dress. There are maqny muslimahs do not dress like that in many countries such as in my country Indonesia. We do not say they are kafir. You are still considered as muslim You do not worry about that.Take it easy and I convince you will grow slowly but sure as the firm and best muslimah. Good luck with you.Wassalamu alaikum warrahmatullahi wabarakatuh from Ruchjat Kosasih.

In the name of Allah the most Gracious the most Merciful.

Sister all praise is to Allah the almighty who guided you to the
religion of truth.Allah guides to the straight path whom he wills
and lets go astray whom he wills.

Just relax and remember that Islam is a complete way of life and definitely Islam is about RIGHTS &LIMITATIONS and to be followed moderately.Yet sister this is not the place to ask
such questions because people in their Ignorance will misguide you and people of other religions will take the
opportunity to malign Islam.

Sister when you pronounced the sahada you bore witness
that there is no other God but Allah the almighty and that the
prophet Muhammad is the slave and messenger of Allah. As
such you will submit yourself to The commands of almighty
Allah and one of the mandatory Commands by Allah to a
Muslim is that he should obey Allah and his messenger [pbuh].Obedience to the prophet [pbuh] means to follow his
ways ,to do what he [pbuh] has recommended to be done
and avoid what he [pbuh] has prohibited. This means
that if you believe in Allah the almighty and his revelation the
Holy Quran and you do not accept the teachings or ways of
the prophet Muhammad[pbuh] then you will be considered as
out of the folds of Islam, until such time that you do.You must
understand that the Sunnah and the Hadith are inseparable
and compliment each other. For example Allah the almighty
advices us in the holy Quran to pray 5 times a day, but it
does not tell you the break up of the prayers, How many
rakaths and how to pray.We come to know this only
from the sunnah and the hadith of the prophet {pbuh} similarly
as pertaining to many acts of worship and Islamic rulings.

Now regarding the Islamic dress code you do not become a
kafir if you dress up otherwise and no muslim has the right to
call you a Kafir.Yes you would be in a state of Sin because
you choose to ignore the teachings of the Quran and the
sunnah of The prophet [pbuh], as long as you feel shy or are
afraid that people will ridicule you, but you accept that it is
better to wear the Islamic dress. On the other hand if you
Think because of the influence of the western society that
the Islam dress degrades a women and is outdated and
should not be followed then you go out of the folds of Islam as
wearing the Islamic dress is a command from almighty Allah
and not from the sunnah or Hadith. Please read the holy
Quran chapter, 24, verse 31, and Quran , chapter 33 verse
59 which gives the command for Hijab.
There are two opinions, in this regard, one group of scholars
says the whole body should be covered including the face
and the hands and the other group of scholars says that the
whole body must be covered , but the hands and the face may
be exposed..In any event both group of scholars agree that
a woman schould cover her face if she is approached by a
strange man.[ non Maharam ]
The good news is that the islam dress does nor necessarily
mean a black Burkha but if your clothing is loose and of a
sober colour then thats fine.some guidelines for Hijab is as
follows...
The womans clothing should should be loose so as not to
define the contours of her body.
The clothing should not be so colorful and attractive so as
to attract male attention.
The clothing should not be see through,
The clothing should not resemble that of the opposite sex
The clothing should not resemble that of the disbelievers.

sister keep you duty to Allah as much as you can and do
not worry what people say. When in doubt ask those with
knowledge. seek the help of Allah in prayer and supplications.
we ask Allah to strengthen our imaan.

I think is good if you also read the hadith along with Koran, but you don't have to trust all the hadiths you read, because not of all hadiths are genuine (or sahih).
I personally has abandoned about half of hadiths.

The Koran says that muslimah should wear hijab (Koran 24:31 and 33:59), but I think it's not compulsory, but preferred (or sunnah).
The point is you should always wear a proper garment, it means you are not allowed to wear tight T-shirt, u-can-c T-shirt, short pants, bikini, etc.

I am an American Muslim male who ran into some similar problems when I decided to become Muslim. The truth is, the Qur'an alone is all that we need to accept. The Qur'an tells us that it is enough. Hadith have been severely altered--many contradict the Qur'an. http://www.submission.org has a lot of relevant information for teens, especially on things like dating and dress. Just be careful and don't get sucked into Rashad Khalifa's trap--check everything on that site with another Qur'an--preferably Arabic, but a different translation will do.

Good luck in your search for the truth!

I agree with sonu, if you don't wear hijab you are not kafir you are still Muslim but doing sin every time a stranger man looks at you hair or parts of your body. and I don't think that's something you want to do because you'll be accumulating sins on your back.

Dont listen to them. All that is important is that you beleive in Allah and that you have faith. What others say is not important.
