Ok, this is going to be a long but higly satisfactory answer. I LOVE biology and I learned about genetics.. Anyways, We have 2 kinds of genes. Dominant Genes (ex:both parents had blue eyes) and recessive genes (mother had green, father had brown) when two people make a baby, we know that the baby get half the mothers genes and half the fathers genes. So say The father's parents both had green eyes (dominant) and the mother's mother had green eyes and the father had blue (recessive). The two people's baby could have gotten the mothers blue-eyed recessive gene and the fathers blue-eyed dominant gene which in turn gives the end result, blue eyed children!!

Many, many babies are born with blue eyes, and the actual color doesn't show up until they're about a year old. I was a blue eyed baby, now my eyes are as green as can be. My daughters had blue eyes at birth, and their eyes stayed blue.

My husb and I both have green eyes; both of our kids have blue eyes.
Overall, blue is a recessive gene, which means you each carry a blue eye gene, which you have passed on. However, eyes are more complicated and the color is determined by
a combo of gene sets.
Babies are born with blue or dark gray eyes [ yes, even black or asian ones ], and the 'real' color should be apparent by about 6 mos.

It's not necessarily common, however there must be blue-eyes in the genes.

very common, if their grandma or grandpa had blue eyes then they can same thing as their great grandparents. it just depends on what is in the genes.
