Hiccups are contractions of the diaphragm muscle located under the chest. They are generally caused by laughing too hard, eating too fast, swallowing air, or indigestion. There are many methods and home remedies for curing them, and they generally don't last very long. While they are annoying, they are usually harmless. However, there have been some cases where the hiccups continue for days or weeks, and then medical intervention is needed.
