I saw someone give this link as an answer to a question about blessing water. I was shocked. ... speechless....

How can you actually believe that a RC, or any other form of Catholic, is not a follower of Christ and just as 'born again' as you are!!??

I am even more shocked now that I have read some of the answers. Whoever is teaching you these things is going to have to do some serious answering of their own when and IF they get to heaven. I know it is not your fault, you have been taught these things which are not true about the RC or any Catholic church. I don't know if I should cry of throw up.

It's because of hate literature like this:

There are at least 4 comics explaining exactly why the christian god will send catholics to hell.

Here's a thought - if there was any shred of truth in christianity, would different denominations treat each other that way?

It's not the Catholic individual that is the problem... it's the Catholic institution. I believe that there will be Catholic individuals in the Kingdom; however, the Catholic Church as an institution and political power is dangerous.

Wow, where do I start...

Catholics have the blood of Bible-believing saints on their hands. Murder. They are at fault for the complete extermination of the Albigenses simply because they kept the Biblical Sabbath. Have you ever been to Rome? Have you seen the chambers of torture and dungeons underneath the cathedrals that imprisoned those who just wanted to follow the Bible?

Catholics introduced that pagan worship into "Christianity" using the compromise that they still promote today. Most all of the things involved in that pagan worship is still practiced today, even in some protestant churches, although it is sugar-coated.

Did you know that when you approach the statue of St. Peter in St. Peter's Basilica, you are actually approaching a statue that "used to be" the statue of Jupiter in the Pantheon? Hmm... what is that hand gesture he's making... believe it or not that gesture (thumb, index, and middle fingers pointing up, other fingers pointing down) was originally an occult blessing.

A winged serpent signified the soul of the departed in ancient Egypt and in Roman mythology. We also know that the serpent that tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden was a winged serpent. Why then is a winged serpent used on the large papal crest in the Vatican museum?

BTW, do you know what the word vatican means? Vatis=diviner + Can=serpent = Vatican=The Divining Serpent.

The Persian sun-god, Mithra (which simply means 'lord'), was widely accepted in the Roman world prior the Constantine's conversion. Sun-day, the first day of the week, was the day that was dedicated to Mithra. When Constantine was converted, the Catholic Church okay'd the change of the Biblical Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday in order to compromise with the pagans. So who gave them the right to change God's 10 Commandments? (see commandment #4) Oh yeah... do you know what Mithra's birthday was? December 25.

I can't even go into all of the pagan symbols used in Catholic churches, because there are so many. If you want the low-down, then email me.

I will focus on one famous pagan symbol explanation, just as an example. The fluer-de-lis is seen in Roman Catholic art and architecture quite often. It is also found on the head of Isis, the Egyptian fertility goddess, and in the tiara of a Neo-Assyrian winged-god from the palace of King Sargon II (which can be found in the Louvre, Paris) The vertical center of the fluer-de-lis is a phallic symbol, while the outside curves represent the female counterpart. Need I say more?

I'm telling you, I could go on for hours... there is so much.

So again, it is NOT the Catholic individual. I have Catholic friends that I honestly believe are heading in the right direction.

It's the Catholic organization that is the problem.

It is impossible to give a universal statement on the salvation of all members of any denomination of Christianity. Not ALL Baptists are saved. Not ALL Presbyterians are saved. Not ALL Lutherans are saved. Salvation is determined by personal faith in Jesus alone for salvation, not by titles or denominational identification. Despite the unbiblical beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, there are genuine believers who attend Roman Catholic churches. There are many Roman Catholics who have genuinely placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. However, these Catholic Christians are believers despite what the Catholic Church teaches, not because of what it teaches. To varying degrees, the Catholic Church teaches from the Bible and points people to Jesus Christ as the Savior. As a result, people are sometimes saved in Catholic churches. The Bible has an impact whenever it is proclaimed (Isaiah 55:11). Catholic Christians remain in the Catholic Church out of ignorance of what the Catholic Church truly stands for, out of family tradition and peer pressure, or out of a desire to reach other Catholics for Christ.

Danielpauldavis is right. My wife was indoctrinated into the teachings of the Catholic church for the first 21 years of her life. All Daniel said is equally true of my wife.

One night my wife attended a prayer meeting. When she walked into the house where the meeting was being held she noticed that the people there had a peace and joy in their faces that she knew she didn't have. (This was at someone's
home - not a church). She watched and listened to the men and women in the house as they talked and she finally said that she wanted to know what it was that made them all so happy and peaceful. They told here about faith in Christ and what He did on the cross for her, and she prayed and asked Christ to forgive her and change her life. In October my wife will be a follower of Christ for 33 years.

Please notice that nobody preached to her. They only met to pray and fellowship. She asked them what they had. They told her and she became a "Christian of her own choice."

Amazing as it may seem to the Catholics in Yahoo Answers, her parents thought she went off the deep end because she was so excited about what Jesus had done for her. When the
same thing happened to her younger brother years later and in a different setting her parents told him that he was going to Hell because he left "Mother Church."

NO CHURCH SAVES!!! NO PRIEST SAVES!!!

Only JESUS provided the atonement when He died for the sinful human race!!! You can deny that until you turn blue in the face, and it will not change it.

TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE CLEAR - PROTESTANT IS NOT CHRISTIAN ANY MORE THAN CATHOLIC IS! It is not what you believe - it is WHO you believe in and trust for your salvation. Jesus alone is the source of salvation. Purgatory doesn't exist because Jesus already paid the price for your sins, and you can't add anything to it. If you could do one thing to earn God's favor - Christ died in vain, and He didn't need to come and save you because you could work your way into God's favor and save yourself.

Martin Luther was persecuted because he hung 95 theses on the church door in Whittenburg, Germany showing clearly the false teachings of the Roman Catholic church. This was a man who crawled up the steps of St. Peter's Basicalla in Rome and kissed each step on the way up many times thinking that it would get him time off purgatory. He read the scripture that said "The Just Shall Live By Faith" and God opened His eyes to see that all his religious performance would not do him any good because it was FAITH IN CHRIST - not religion that would save him.

I am not a hater of Catholics, but like the writer David in the book of Psalms wrote: "Oh Lord, how I love thy law, but I HATE every false way" so I too hate the lies that would make people turn their back on salvation by grace and put religion in the place of a relationship with the Saviour of the World.
Therefore I can include every religion on earth that teaches a way to Heaven other than faith in Christ as false and love the people who are in them and still hate the deception the teachings bring to the hearts and minds of others.

PLEASE HEAR THIS AS IT IS WRITTEN! I LOVE PEOPLE!
I despise lies! I love truth, and truth is found in Christ! He said in John 14:6 - "I am the way, the truth and the life. NO MAN come to the Father UNLESS HE COMES THROUGH ME." There is no other way!

Wisdom - I have not read the book, however, Dave Hunt keeps copious footnotes and cross-references. I trust his opinion on quite a few issues.

As for the question, well, it has to do with what the individual Catholic does with the errors in doctrine and what their foundation is built on. Of course, such errors or rejection of errors differ from Catholic to Catholic.

Catholics adhere to the Pope as the vicar of Christ.
Christians believe that the Bible is the final authority.
2 Timothy 3:16

Catholic tradition is of equal authority with the Bible.
Christians believe traditions of man cause error.
Matthew 15:3

Catholics adhere to Mary as a co-regent of Jesus.
Christians beleive that Mary was blessed, but only human.

Christians believe there that only Jesus is Mediator.

Christians believe all who believe are saints.

daniel said it best. Can't you see why someone would say that a Catholic is not a Christian? I am not discriminating or judging, but the Catholic church is full of people that worship idols, pray to idols and confess their sins to a man instead of to God. They believe that they must say Hail Marys to be forgiven. No where in God's Word does it ever say anything about a rosary or Hail Marys. What is says is Jesus Christ died for our sins and we must only believe on Him and repent of our sins and we will be forgiven. To me, the Catholics just make things more complicated than they have to be. Maybe instead of getting so defensive, you could just see things from others point of view. Maybe read the scripture yourself. God bless you, Cat

That's the problem with cults like Baptists they are so full of hate, instead of preaching love, they just preach hatred, the Baptist church in Westboro is a classic example. There isn't a Baptist church around that won't have something bad to say about somebody, either another religion, or denomination of Christianity, or a type of people. They forget that their own church is just full of apostates and in order to justify that they have to claim that the root they came from was evil.

Catholics are Christians, but many evangelicals focus in on some of the teachings of the Catholic Church which are not supported by scripture, and try to "convert" catholics from those beliefs. Oddly enough, many of these people are Baptists, who have some beliefs of their own which are not scripturally based. All of this arguing as to which "Christian" beliefs were the "right" beliefs is what led me to declare myself "non-denominational"
