There is a product line out called Nioxin, it's specifically designed for thinning hair, and it cleans out your hair follicles allowing new hair to grow. It's a three step process, and you can get it from salons only (they may sell it at grocery stores or target, wal-mart, etc. but it's probably not the real stuff.)

Definitly try Nioxin. I recommend it all the time for thinning hair.
