The number of events necessary for the eye to form might be as high as 1 billion, depending on what you define as an event. Most of the events were highly probable (about 1 in a billion). If you just have a population of 1 billion creatures, 1 event per one-year generation for a billion years should do the job. Natural selection takes care of the chaff.

Thank you for the opportunity for demonstrating how simple evolution of the eye is. Thank you for further demonstrating that Creationists are liars. They bandy words like impossible for processes that are demonstrated. They make up facts like "It first opened two holes of the requisite size and in the best possible place in the skull", despite the fact that eyes evolved before bones, and some creatures have eyes on stalks.

Are you insane? If we had ended up with 3 eyes, that would seem perfectly natural to us and then we'd wonder why we didn't have 2. 2 eyes seem right to us only because that's all we have!
And as for "the perfect place in the skull" that's ridiculous. Predators have eyes on the front of their head, the better to stalk prey. Prey animals have eyes on the side of their heads, the better to spot a predator from all angles. Why? Because that's how animals evolved. A prey animals with eyes in the front would have been wiped out as they were too easily snuck up on and eaten. The eyes evolved as a response to the environment...a need to see, either to hunt or hide. And considering some animals don't have eyes or don't need them, then they don't have them. There are plently of totally blind species living in caves. It's so simple, why can't you just see it??

Evolution is not God, not magic, just common sense about how things change through natural selection over countless generations. Slight mutations and changes' slight advantages of one variety over another, countless small changes add up to big changes over the millennia until totally new forms appear. Animal husbandry, which selectively breeds livestock for desired traits, is nothing more than forced evolution caused by man's intervention. The evolution of animal breeds and plant varieties by selective breeding is obvious proof of evolution over relatively short periods of time. Imagine if you can what can happen over the thousands of years. If you are actually interested in the subject, Read Darwin or any book on evolution. They can explain it much better than I.

Don't be so taken with creationist propaganda. It's misleading you into making a fool of yourself.
Believing in evolution doesn't mean that one regards chance as a god. That's utterly ridiculous. Evolution is not a matter of chance.

Because, because! GOD MADE EVOLUTION!!!
That is, he designed the laws of physics, structures of matter, properties of whatever, and knowing the result he turned it all loose and let it happen. It was made just so that stars could form, planets could be spherical, life could begin. And it happened, as he expected and guessed.
Makes sense, right? Right?
This isn't the extent of my belief but that is all that is relevant.

NATURAL SELECTION * I S . N O T . B L I N D* AT ALL!
Pick up a *high school text* or Google < 'Natural Selection' > ... then come back and talk! ... This is BASIC, not "God-like".
