I had it started last x-mas, but just now got it finished. It didn't peel or anything when I got it first. What do I do?

Peeling is okay. Just continue to wash it with antibacterial soap, and use A&D ointment or neosporin -without pain reliever. The soap should dry it so that it will scab, peel and heal faster. The ointment will keep out any infection. Do not scratch or pick it. Smacking it will relieve the itch, and it will itch after u clean it with the a/b soap. I like to clean my tattoo w/ soap, let it air dry, then put the cream on. I aint an expert, but all of my tattoos still look new and i have been getting tatted for 18 years. 10 down 3 more to go!!

Two of three of mine have peeled afterwards. I don't know why it affects skin differently at different times. Maybe it has something to do with how deep the ink goes, how dry or healthy the skin is, the colors used. Anyway, as long as I let them peel without peeling the skin off myself, the tattoos have healed fine with the right colors. There is one spot on a rose that I peeled off and it came out a little bit lighter because I didn't wait for the skin to fall of on its own.

I got a tattoo and mine started to peel too. It really freaked me out because I noticed that the skin that was peeling was the same color as my tattoo so I thought my tattoo was basically falling off lol. But, peeling is normal and it will go away over time

It shouldn't be doing that, peeling could cause the color to fade, you should keep a very thin layer of bag balm on it, cleaning it in between applications with an anti bacterial soap. It should heal faster that way and keep it from peeling.

You can find Bag Balm at your local pharmacy its in a green square tin. Its used for many different things including on farm animals but that shouldn't discourage you. Many tattoo shops sell it.

what ever you do DON'T USE NEOSPORIN it will pull the ink out of the skin, and cause it fade faster!!!

You said it was just finished. Depending on where it was finished on your body would depend on the healing process. Usually about 2-4 days after, it will peel or be very dry and itchy. I have 4 of them.

it is ok. as a matter of fact, it is the sign of a job well done by your tattoo artist, that it peeled rather than scabbed over. LISTEN TO JAIMEY J AND DOC who answered before me. keep a oil free lotion on it. NO BATH AND BODY WORKS KIND OF STUFF, even though i love the new honeysuckle sent. try one called tattoo goo. its really good stuff

peeling is ok. just dont pick at it . it will get rid of the colour .and if its peeling and come colour has gone out . if u went to any half decent tattoo artist if u go back he will touch it up 4 free. no worries

there's nothing wrong with it. it's creating a scab and that scab is falling off. a tattoo is nothing more than a large colored wound. if there were no ink it would result in a big scar, it'sgoing to scab over and shed that scab. don' let anyone tell you any different. staying out of the sun til it's healed will help

Hi Michelle,

It's just your skin healing. Do NOT pick at it. The best thing you can do is to rub some vitamin E oil on it. You should be able to purchase some at your tattoo place.

yikes! in a recent issue of seventeen that happened to a girl who didn't get it done properly and know she has a hole in her foot in a shape of a star (she got a star tattoo). when you got yours done was it done with clean tools by a professional? if it wasn't you could get a disease like hepatitis b or something like that go to the doctor's ASAP and don't put it off it could be something serious!!!
