i live in seattle wa, i have no resources no extra money and a criminal history. why does this give the police the right to break the law to get a conviction? the bike patrol in downtown seattle lied and said that they seen me standing in an alcove in a drug area, and that when i saw them i started walking and droped somethin which gave them probable cause. when the truth is i had just parked my car legally which they saw me get out of and i started walking when behind me a officer said "oh look what we have here" one of them asked me "where are u going?" i said im going up the street to have a drink. he looked at his watch and said "its 2:30 in the morning put your hands up against the wall" they searched my car and said " u kno if we find anything we are goin to seize the car too" regardless if anything was found they mentioned none of this in the police report which would have made the search illegal. in a court of law who are they goin to believe? no one is above the law??????????

Find a good public lawyer who deals with cases like this for consultation - you can find one in your phone book, and they're also advertised on TV (most of the latter deal with insurance companies, but I'm sure they also deal with other cases, such as criminal injustice or false convinctions, such as described above.) It's always good to remember how you experienced them, and document it as if your are writing your own police report. This will be useful for when you get to court, as judges will look at this kind of documentation. Then, you and your lawyer must contact City Hall or whoever is in charge with police affairs, and file a complaint with whatever department contained the cops who harassed you. If the cops are found guilty, and their actions were not justifiable, they could be suspended or thrown off the force.

From a societal point of view, each community must create a legal petition (name, address and phone number) describing the "wild cops" situation that must be controlled. (another solution would be to create an online petition that caters nationwide.) Possible solutions could be a suspension of the offending officer depending on the severity of the incident, or for more serious offences, dismissal from the force entirely. Also, it may cost extra, but put a law enforcement psychologist on the payroll (departments in some cities actually do this), AND have a mandatory seminar in law enforcement ethics, so cops can learn to make arrests and deal with offenders in a forceful, yet friendly manner if the sitaution warrants it. This latter plan should be even included in police conferences held around the country. I know there are cops out there who don't like being told how to do their jobs, but there are some who badly need it.

If you buy a illegal drug you have broken the law. If you buy an illegal drug and then pass it to someone else its distributing. As far as telling you they will drop the charges for the contact that is completely legal. Deals are cut every day in the legal system. If you dont want to talk you have the right to remain silent, Lawyer up and have your day in court. If the police broke any laws in your arrest process then your lawyer will prove that in court and the case would be droped.. How about not breaking the law and you will be fine. You use the term Nazi Germany loosely, you should have more respect for the people that really had to live though that and all they lost compared to your problems with your dime bag, Grow up.

Well, unfortunately not you, unless they(the officers ) have a record of abuse when on patrol.I have heard of this a lot of times, but not every cop is crooked. That fact that you have a criminal history may make you an easy target for these guys.Have they arrested you before leading to the criminal background? If so,then they know you well enough to bust your chops. If you had a videotape to prove this then obviuosly you would be believed. My honest advice to you is not to frequent this area in the future. If you paid your debt to society and are really trying to stay straight going forward from here, then even if you have to move it would be better than possibly being arrested again and again, increasing your rap sheet.Dont give these cops the satisfaction of being their personal quota.Clear up this incident, move on with your life the best that you can.Maybe a new location could give you a clean start.Take care and good luck with your future.

Man oh man what in the world are doing out there at 2:30 in the morning. That is just asking for trouble. And thats the way the judge will see it too. I know its a free country and you should be able to do what you want a 2:30 AM, but thanks to gangbangers and druggies the police aren't going to take any chances and the courts are going to take their side. It took me a long time to learn that. I was stubborn though and thought eventually I would win and they would leave me alone. But it ain't going to happen. This is a police nation and a nation of laws and 2:30 AM, if you aren't on the job, is when the dishonest and denizens of society are out and about.

you looked suspicious..this is a Grey area as police have the advantage of two against one...you have your word against theirs..plus you have a record? but if they harass you..you should complain to Internal Affairs or the ACLU as if the police department get enough complaints they will take action.

Yes, the police do lie. I had them do that to me in a case that was really the police men's word against me..the police sometimes act above the law..and they wonder why people don't trust them? most cops are honest but like every other job ...there is always a few bad apples..

once I bought a homeless person a coffee and gave him some spare change and the cops pulled me over and ask me why I was hanging out with the WINOS? I told them that I was buying a homeless guy a coffee and talked to him..as he was very interesting and had a lot of funny stories..but the police like to intimidate people and throw their authority around..it makes them feel important as cops who do this are real pieces of you know what..a lot of cops were caught as wife beaters and alcoholic drug users but I think things are getting better as the cities get sued more often and lose large sums of money to these crooked cops...it happens..the last ticket I got was from a rookie for going five over the speed limit..they have to get their quota...that is why i don't like cops either..

The search of your person and car was not illegal. All they need is probable cause.

And, I don't think they just picked you out of a crowd because they didn't like the shirt you were wearing.

Your best bet is to avoid places where you know drugs are bought and sold....and find another place to drink at 2:30 in the morning.

You have to find out your the number to your local Internal Affairs Bureau, they are the police for the police, and once you do that then you call,a nd ask for the agent, but when you do it, you have to have the officer's name, and possible their badge number, and the precinct that they work for, that way when you do go to IAB, then you will get the right officer.NO the law have absolutely;y no right to break the law, this is why the internal affairs bureau was put into place.

get a copy of the incident report...its free.

then take it to a lawyer, consultations are free...of you tell the lawyer what you told here....there is a chance you could file a civil suit, providing that evidence is against the police force...

there are cops out that do abuse the system, and they DO violate rights with their phony "gung ho" interrogational attitudes before you get to a lawyer...I've seen very little consensuality from a few Cops on Columbus, Ohio....know what you mean.

To get them straightened out at times as to whether they are pushing the limits at times...all we can do is tell a Lawyer...in fact here in Columbus,Oh....there over 600 civil suits pending against the police department here...LOL.

get a lawyer. call your local news station and report it. all the cops do is break the laws, they think they're above it.
if they lie about the police report, a lawyer can help you. you can write your own report on how things happened. they lied in my police report, said they pulled me over for my third break light being out, when they pulled me over for no seatbelt. i got off.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GO WITH A COURT APPOINTED LAWYER OR ANY LAWYER IN THE COUNTY. GET A LAWYER FROM ANOTHER COUNTY.
the court apponted lawyers are "in bed" with the judge and the prosecutor.
