i work out more than him, but he got like 20 pounds on me, how come he is slightly stronger than me. is it because his weight

The extra 20 pounds might be muscle weight. Some people's bodies gain muscle easier than others, and some retain fat for longer periods. It all depends on your metabolism. Don't be so hard on your self, okay?

the mechanics of the exercises that you are performing may be better suited for his body. bone and tendon length, etc. all play a role in strength.

some people can spend the entire lifetime attempting to bench 405 lbs while others can do it with no training what soever.
