The ziggurats of Babylon were level recessed towers and contained the hanging gardens that were once among the seven wonders of the world.

Ziggurats were Mesopotamian toombstones. Precursors to the pyramids. They were not an attempt to reach heaven, but to keep ones' goods for the afterlife. Heaven was only associated with the Hebrew people as a realm for God and angels or spirit be-ings, not humans. The Tower of Babel was the one being built to reach God.
