there isn't even any way the ordained can bless water to make it holy.
I'm content to just take the iron and hardness out of it.

Not really. The only exception would be emergency baptism. This can only be done in an extreme emergency when someone is dying and a member of the clergy can not get there to baptize them before they die. If you are a baptized Christian, yourself having been properly baptized in the name of the trinity, you can baptize the dying person. You can use ordinary unblessed water or even your own saliva if that is all that is there, but I would do this: ask the Holy Spirit to come upon the water for the purpose of Baptism, and then use it to baptize the person. Every Christian, in my opinion, should know the form of prayer necessary to preform an emergency baptism. Sometimes it is necessary to do when a newborn baby is dying, or any other medical emergency when it is clear that the person may not live.
