Ever since I've learned this in my english class, if I hear people talk this way it annoys me. In case you don't know, here is an example of one: You aren't going nowhere. (The correct way would be, you aren't going anywhere). Or here is another one: You won't get nothing. (It should be, you won't get anything). Okay, so you probably think I'm a weirdo, but this is like my biggest pet peve!

It annoys me soo much! If I'm feeling mean enough sometimes I'll make a comment like "Oh so I am going somewhere?" and then they get mad and dont understand it. Then I ty to explain that 2 negitives make a positive and it goes right over their head.. I guess I have to live with it for a few more years.. I live somewhere with alot of ignorant people

Hey, I agree with you 100%. Double negatives just sound stupid to me. I especially hate people saying something like "I ain't got nothing there..." or "There ain't no way ..."
Oh yeah, and people who say "irregardless" when they mean regardless.
I think all of those double negatives are pollution in the atmosphere that will lead to global warming.

Yes, I also find that quite annoying. However, I am surrounded by people at my school who don't have that habit of speech. (In fact, at my school two years of Latin are mandatory). I did notice in my Spanish class as well though, that when learning to speak in negatives, you have to make the entire sentence negative. It sort of screws with my head...
oh well.

Its just a part of the overall decay of the English language. There are signs of it everywhere - particularly on line.

I hate all grammar and spelling errors but I'm not perfect either so I use constructive criticism when correcting people.

No. I don't not like that at that level of "pet peeve."
In fact I enjoy it when people talk like that because it lets me quickly recognize their level of ignorance and lower my expectations for them so that I am not disappointed in them.
