I am considering a change to one of these meds for GAD and depression. I'm interested in hearing how other's have done on them. Thanks for your time.

Lexapro was the first med I tried for my depression and what an introduction to the process. It made my anxiety far worse, which increased the SI and I basically couldn't leave my dorm room after being on it for nine days. Keep in mind this med could work really well for you, or not. Everyone reacts differently to all these psychiatric meds and the only way to know what works is to try it. I'm on Abilify now, along with Lamictal and Wellbutrin. I haven't had any side effects that I can tell and I'm more stable than I've been in years.

I took Zoloft years ago and got up to 200mg. It never helped me and it was like taking sugar pills. I've been on Lexapro for almost 6 months and it's pretty good. It's done a lot for my severe depression. I'm up to 30 mg. I still don't quite feel like it's enough though. The Lexapro was definitely not enough for my anxiety/panic attacks so I also take 1.5mg of Klonopin. About 10 days ago, my doctor prescribed 5mg of Abilify on top of the other meds because of some mood swings and somewhat psychotic 'episodes' that I still have. It hasn't done a thing for me yet but it hasn't even been 2 weeks. He said I may need a higher does at some point and the hope is that it will replace the Klonopin. We'll see.
I've had no weight gain whatsoever from my drug combo. I actually lost about 10 lbs.

The Abilify is about $400 for 30 5mg pills. Hopefully your insurance will cover it!!

Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions about my experience.

I was on Lexapro for 2 years & have just stopped as I felt it was not working anymore for me. I was on Cipramil first & that was great but i did get side effects at the start but they ware off over time. Than my gp changed me staright over to Lexapro saying it was just the same but a cheaper version of it. I than went down hill slowly. What ever u choose try & stick with it for at least 3 months to give u a good assesment if its working for u if u can. I have not had Abilify before.

I have experience with Lexapro. I've been taking it for about 2 months now. It works much better than Paxil did for me.

I don't feel anywhere near as light-headed as I did when I would miss a dose or didn't take my Paxil on time.

All I have is depression, BTW. (well, and ADD, but I don't take anything for that)

A friend of mine had a seizure because of Lexapro side effects. She's okay now, but now is feeling like the "cure" is worse than the disease. This has really become tooo much of a pill-popping society. Please be careful!
