Since priests are Catholic and not Christian it probably doesn't affect "Christian Women" at all. There is no biblical command concerning the celibacy of priests - it is a Catholic thing.

Being a Eunuch in the Bible is a choice men make who are dedicated to God. Those men are not priests. They are just everyday people like anyone else.

I just don't understand it.

The reasons I get are so the priest can concentrate on their Parish better without worrying about a family, or they want to dedicate their whole self to God so they remain celibate/single. Ok I can buy this reason.

I just want to know if the Church would consider giving them a choice. To be or not to be celibate and single, that is the question.

My Catholic friend didn't have an answer when I asked her and told me "Because then they wouldn't be priest."

I just don't get it.

It is sacrificial. The priest offers a sacrifice of his life to the Church. It doesn't mean that marriage and sex within marriage is something that takes away chastity of holiness. I just heard someone say you don't put garbage on the altar.

The Catholic church considers the marital act as a sacrament. Priest sacrifice that good for something better.

There's a joke about the pope getting to heaven and researching the writings of the early saints.. and is dumbfounded to discover the word is miswritten in one of the early texts... celebrate not celibate...

I think it is great that they want to devote themselves entirely to God! As St. Paul writes, "The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord; but the married man is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided." (1 Corinthians 7:32-34)

BTW, this is NOT just a Catholic thing, as some have claimed. While both the Orthodox and the Catholic Church ordain married men, in neither do ordained men marry and retain the clerical state.

Hmm...that is a stictly Catholic teaching. The Bible makes no mention that a church leader must remain unwed. Paul makes mention that it is better to be single, but it's not a calling for all people. Each is called differently.

I have no problem with it. Some are called to serve God as a priest or a nun. If one feels that their calling is to be celibate and to serve God why shouldnt they?

Only in the catholic denomination.

And I think that it is weird, unnatural and know that it is not biblical.

That is why it good to follow the bible and not what a particular religious non-biblical doctrine teaches.
