I would say it's absolutely possible to never totally recover. Sexual abuse is a horrible, horrible experience no one should have to experience. It is possible to work on recovering from it. If you're not in therapy already, find a therapist that you can see. Call around to mental health centers in your area and ask who is taking patients at this time. It would also be important to ask if there are any therapists at the centers that specialize in sexual abuse. Some therapists have more experience in dealing with sexual abuse than others. If you get help, you will most likely be able to heal, but since the memories would still be there, chances are you will still have strong feelings about it, even after working through all the issues associated with it. Good luck and hope this helps.

Sure it's possible. The sad thing is, with proper counseling and work on the patients part, it really doesn't have to be that way.

Just so you understand, nobody ever "totally recovers" from something like that. In order to do that, you'd have to wipe their memory completely of the abuse, and that is not possible.

Anyone going through a major trauma has to get the proper help for a lengthy period and actively work on themself too. Forgiving themself, the abuser, working on self-esteem, etc., all help a great deal. PTSD is something that over time, with proper care, can also be overcome and goes hand in hand with the abuse.

I know it certainly does feel that way. Eventually you will be able to move on. The hurt will always be with you but you will learn that there is LIFE after all the abuse.
