Sexual exploration will happen everywhere, at young ages, regardless of background, parenting, community, religion.. its unstoppable and totally natural. To prevent REAL problems, like unwanted pregnancy and STD's, it is smart and responsible to make condoms availible.
Even if you stand firm by your beliefs, if you happen to believe in abstaining before marriage, this will not necessarily be the same for other people, including your own kids. Denial in this situation is dangerous.
Instead of pretending it doesn't exist, or that it's bad, it's best for young people to be informed on all sides when making decisions like whether or not they want to have sex, and then they can and will and do make up their own minds about when they are ready. This includes being told that condoms are not one hundred percent reliable, in all cases, and still won't prevent people from getting herpes, etc.. But as long as they are informed, in general, young people can be quite responsible, more than they're usually given credit for. So yeah, teach abstinence. But they NEED to be taught about sex, consequences of unsafe sex, and how to prevent some of the more dire consequences as well.

In Africa, the AIDS epidemic is overwhelming, because religion refuses to teach safe sex. So life threatening diseases are spread like wildfire. Just think about this , before giving me a thumbs down!!

This is a double edged sword. It is a case of choosing the lesser of two evils unfortunately... To say yes implies that you condone teenage sex, and to say no implies that you are not concerned about teen pregnancy or STDs.... I think you really have to answer this question in 2 parts... I would prefer that teenagers ( especially early teens) abstain from having sex. They have plenty of time for that later... On the other hand, if it is a given, that we can not stop teens from having sex, then of course I am all for condoms being distributed. At the end of the day our top priority should be the safety of our kids. To ignore the fact that they may be sexually active is naive and bordering on negligent...

Not really. The best thing is to educate them. By issuing the condoms at high schools we seems to approved sex before marriage. However, it is necessary to prevent diseases and pregnancy among the young.

Yes, absolutely. As long as it is a part of a good sex education curriculum teaching about the health risks, pregnancy, and abstinence.

In the end, burying our heads in the sand won't make the problem go away. After we've done what we can to educate, all that's left is to offer protection.. so to speak.

No this world is unsafe enough with out condoms, however I do believe in Chasity, but not a Chasity belt . life is to short to be gullible, and dumb, to the fact of hormones. Yes I believe whole heartily in GOD, but I also believe that one shall be wise as a serpent, and harmless as a dove, this applys in many areas, plus comes from the word of GOD, and since HIV, hepatitis b, resistant gonorrhea, H.P.V. are so prevalent and many are not learning to fear GOD
condoms, condoms, condoms, .

Yes, of course. With the rates of STD's and pregnancies, if you think they aren't having sex you're not in reality. The condoms are much needed. And as someone who was in high school only 5 years ago, it honestly didn't make me any more likely to have sex.

why not? i am a realist in that i know many in high school who claim to be having sex, are in fact not having sex [that is a given for many a young man] so,if giving out condoms protects against std' and other things - why not - seems to be a good thing if you ask me.

Not at all. Either way, I think teens are going to have sex, but handing out condoms is either going to give them the idea that its ok, so they will have more sex, or a false sense of security thinking that there full proof, and nothing is going to happen.

I, on the other hand, am 16 and I know whats going to happen if I choose to have sex. Besides, I'd rather save myself for whoever my husband will be. : )

Religious folk tend to get so upset at this, thinking that supplying condoms presses children into sexual acts. They seem to believe that if one talks about sex, or promotes safer sex, that one is advocating sex. The point is though that humans have drive for sex. A percentage of children will have sex no matter what is done. Providing a means to make that sex safer is in no way a crime or immoral. What is immoral is recognizing that children will have sex, and to provide them with no means to prevent either pregnancy or the spread of STD's.

I suppose I should say yes but I feel that it condoms should be given to the kids that ask for them.
