I suffer from OCD and I get anxiety attacks when my family does something that violates my schedual. I am extremly anxious right now because twenty mintues ago my dad came in while I was wearing nothing but a towel and was yelling at me. I want to break stuff. Thats the only thing that makes me feel better is breaking glasses and plates, because I feel like when it breaks the anxiety is broken and everything is all better, but that only gets me into more trouble because my parents scream at me and touch me and it makes everything worse. What can I do? I want to break something right now.

interesting, maybe you are not OCD, just stressed by ur dad walking in when you are wearing nothing? maybe you live in a high stress house hold, i would hold off on the diagnosis for now, i would focus on saving money to move out and find your self.

Take some deep breaths. Maybe on top of your OCD and anxiety you have some anger management problems. Think of different ways to channle your anger or frustration. Take up kickboxing or get a punching bag or go jogging or something positive. Another idea....save all the glass bottles and jars you come across and keep them somewhere and then when you want to break something go outside and break those and then sweet them up and throw them away.

Hi there, I just laugh about my past 3 years of panic now. I was not able to go anywhere without carrying xanax. Fear of having another attack was the most important subject of my days. When i first found joe barry's web site i started to cry because of my happiness.

Wanting to break things sounds more like an anger problem than anxiety. I had an anxiety attack a few months ago and my doctor prescribed Xanax to take only in situations when I feel extremely anxious. My anxiety attack felt more like tightness in my chest, a lump in my throat, and difficulty breathing. Talk to a doctor, tell him your symptoms and go from there.

Are you getting any kind of treatment for this?

There is an effective therapy called cognitive behavior therapy / exposure response prevention. It works!

CBT / ERP has been shown to have a long term positive effect for sufferers of OCD.

There is also a book called "Freeing your child from obsessive compulsive disorder." I think you and your parents would benefit from getting and reading this book.

First of all, you need to set some serious boundries with your father, that is WAY out of line to walk in on you in that position.

Second, your parents need to learn to stop screaming and I suggest tell them either they get some counseling or you will leave (if you are of legal age). That is abusive.

Third, I suggest you get some counseling to deal with what happens in your house; tips on how to better deal with the parents, your anxiety and OCD.

Just because you are their child, it gives parents no right to treat you in any abusive way.

If you know that you have OCD I assume you have a doctor. You should tell them that you're having a difficult time and ask for some coping skills.

Try this as a distraction:
