First, see your doctor for a complete physical. This will insure that you are healthy enough for an exercise program and that you don't have an underlying issue such as hypothyroidism. When you see your doctor, he can also send you to a nutritionist for a diet based on foods you like but with specific portions designated.

In the meantime, you already know you eat too much...you states such. So, start by cutting your portions down...instead of eating what you normally eat, eat only 2/3 of it. After you have adjusted to that, you can then cut the portion to half of what you usually eat (NOT half of the 2/3). You never want to eat less than 1500 calories a day without a doctor's permission since you are still growing. Not getting enough calories will interfere with your normal growth and your health.

Also, you need to increase your physical activity level. Since you want to play basketball in the fall, start running. Start slow and always remember to warm up first. Work your way up to where you are running at least a mile and a half 3 days a week. If you really detest running, find an exercise you like because then you are more likely to stick with it. Just be sure to do it for at least an hour three times a week.

The combination of cutting back on what you eat and increasing your activity level will help you burn calories and lose weight. Now see your doctor to rule out any medical issues and to see a nutritionist. Good luck!

I'm 16 and 5 8 and i had some what the same problem for me it really wasn't what i eat it what i did to burn off the fat that i eat. i went from being the person who got less then a minute on the floor to starting 5 in 2 weeks and i lost 20 pounds.
i would go to practice and then when i got home i would run with a 20 pound vest for 20 mins. then i would do layups with that vest and miken drill (look that drill up if you don't know it its the best for the posts) and then i would lift weights yes i was sore but all that payed out when i started just after two weeks.
Hope that helped!
