I heard implant is not good because the presence of metal in the body which is a foreign material and the body will act with antibodies. Also that if you have dentures, even partial , the bones will retract and you will look older . How are the dentures now days, can you really eat good with them and what happens if you forget taking them off during sleep?

i'd say the implant is a better choice... i've got a partial at the moment, waiting on an implant. i cannot eat one darn thing with the partial in my mouth! it totally sucks--i can't go out to eat. feh... as far as rejection of the implant goes, i think it's quite rare

Dental implants can last a lifetime, unlike bridges, partials and dentures that may need to be replaced several times. Since dental implants prevent the bone resorption that occurs when teeth are missing, the natural appearance of the smile is preserved. With implant treatment, there is no compromise to adjacent teeth; they are not cut down to place a bridge, or loosened by the hooks on removable partials. Dentures and partials have the added disadvantage of accelerating the bone resorption process, which causes the appearance of premature aging.

my office refers most of our implant cases out then they come back to our office to have the crown made to go ontop of the implant-in about 200 cases i've only seen maybe 3 patients reject the implant. thats pretty good odds. alot of our patients have had implants for 10+years and have had no adverse reactions. Partial dentures are fine too. the bone only degenerates if you DON'T replace missing teeth with either dentures or partials - may sleep with pd or dtr's as long as you put a clean pd on clean teeth.

I have implants in my lower jaw and getting it done for my upper. My lower dentures, don't move, have a strong bite, and this will get better when my upper dentures are fitted with implants.

The healing post for an implant is made of titanium. Your immune system will not even know that it is there.
It is the same metal that is used for joint replacement IE hip implant.
