I think it was a very winnable war but the politicians made our military fight the war with one hand tied behind our backs when they would not allow air strikes into the cities of Hanoi and the major shipping port of Haiphong where military supplies from both the Soviet Union and eastern bloc countries like the Czech Republic came into. They would not let us pursue the enemy across the borders into Laos and Cambodia yet the NVA could operate with impunity going back and forth. If they would of let us use the military to its full capabiility back then I don't think there would even be a VietNam Wall in Washington DC because the war would of been over quickly. Just my opinion.

The Second Indochina War should never have taken place and would not have if the US had not violated every aspect of the 1954 Geneva Agreements on Indochina. Vietnam was legally one country TEMPORARILY divided into two military demarcation areas with the Viet Minh to go north of the 17th parallel and the French to go south and elections to be held NATIONALLY in 1956. The US installed Diem in the south, proclaimed an independent country in the south against international law, sent in military advisors and arms in violation of the treaty and sent CIA agents into the north to destabilise the north and to cause panic with the Catholic community causing a flood of Catholics to move south.

Those who served are my heros. It is a real shame they were not allowed to win that war. The things those soldiers had to go through while at war and then to come home to country full of hatered for what they did is just inexcusable. They served this country with honor.
