of this girl acquiantance of mine at the gym and vice versa,she still continues to try to be polite and cordial,want to get on my good side and even try to get my attention.Does she just want something from me?

Sounds to me that she wants to be a friend. It could be that seemingly abrasive side to her character is just a veneer and she is really quite different on the inside. Hey it doesn't hurt to be a friend at the gym if that's okay with you.
