a quarter- the same as 1/4 of the unit in question- an hour. so 1/4 of an hour before 7am. 60 divided by 4 is 15. 15 minutes before 7 is 6:45. just in case you are really serious.

6:45 Every fifteen minutes of a hour is a quarter. Because It takes 60 minutes to make and hr and 60 divided by four is 15. So, a quarter til, would be the last fifteen of the hour.

6:45, i think, just remember if you look at a clock, there are four sections, 12-3, 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12 if you take the last quarter it's 45 minutes of that hour, 15 minutes until the next hour.....wow.... i hope that made sense...
