I know I grind my teeth. I have strange headaches around the back of my ears. It hurts to press on that area. Sometimes the temples hurt too. Is this from grinding my teeth at night or something else? Does that mouthgard thingy help to avoid the headaches?

THERE IS A BRUXISM APPLIANCE THAT WHEN WORN AT NIGHT WILL TOTALLY STOP YOU FROM GRINDING AND MAKE YOUR HEADACHES GO AWAY. A NIGHT GUARD WON'T WORK, YOU'LL STILL GRIND. HERE'S THE ANSWER. THE NTI-TSS BRUXISM APPLIANCE. A DENTIST NEEDS TO MAKE IT FOR YOU. YOU CAN'T JUST BUY ONE AT WALMART. SOME OF MY PATIENTS AFTER YEARS OF MISERY HAVE FINALLY DISCOVERED TRUE RELIEF.
FYI, THIS IS VERY COMFORTABLE TO WEAR WHILE SPLEEPING.

Definitely get a mouth guard - if your like me - I can be so positive but in my sleep I would chew out those I was upset with and not only grind the teeth but mainly clench them - having tried the drug store and athletic mouth guard ones - but the best is to spend the money for a dentist to make you a custom one - it will normally cost you 275 - 325 (that was here in CA San Diego) other parts of the country may be less- a bit pricey and not on most dental plans - but trust me - well worth it. I cracked 4 teeth once - needing 4 crowns.no cavities just clenching the teeth.

I grind my teeth really bad at night. In fact it has caused TMJ. It is very painful. I have a mouth guard, but I find that I spit it out in my sleep. I have worn it for several years, and every morning, I find it somewhere, other then in my mouth. So I don't know how good it is doing me.

Yes, get thee to a dentist for a night guard. As the others have said, this is a sign of TMJ, and it will wear your teeth down, crack teeth, and cause you interrupted sleep and therefore fatigue.

If it is TMJ this is not a minor thing. Get it checked professionally. Don't hesitate, the pain can be stopped by proper alignment of the jaw.

The night guard will help. When you open your mouth wide, can you feel or hear a clicking sound? If so, you might have TMJ. If it persist, you should contact your dentist, so that you can be fitted with a proper fitting night guard.
