Te best way to answer your question is to ask a few.
You want to know what is the most powerful engine offered in these cars? the 428SCJ
The most reliable? the 390 FE
The most popular? again - the 390 FE

Now if you are asking because you want to put one in a car, well there are different questions.
The cheapest to build and maintain - 289 small block
The most power for the buck - 460 LIMA (not really a big offering in the Galaxies but hey it's a Ford)
The most fun money no object - Definitely the FE. The 352, 360, 390, 406, 427, and 428 were some of the toughest engines you could get. Catch is, they aren't cheap to build, but they are getting easier to build. It's very easy to get 500 horsepower from one of these beasts, and if you really have deep pockets, an all aluminum 427 is capable of close to 1000 horsepower - NO NITROUS - Supercharer, sure, but no squeeze.
But a 390 can be built to be very streetable for under 2K.

Remeber Fear starts with FE!

Probably a 390. It all depends on what you can find. If not a 390 then a 427,428,429, 460. Good luck.

The Ultimate was the the SOHC 427 "cammer". It was put into a set of factory 1965/6 Galaxies to satisfy rules for NASCAR and they had to change the rules to prevent them from racing.
