The model 49 was similar to the M39 Bodyguard airweight revolver, but had a steel frame. Shrouded hammer, 5-shot cylinder, .38 caliber. It was made from1959 and discontinued sometime in the 90's. Today a used one in very good condition is worth around $250 - $300, but if you take it to a gun shop be prepared for them to offer you a much lower price.

I like the Model 49 Bodyguard.
I have one and carried it constantly for a couple of years. I especially like the shrouded hammer which gives you single-action capability for precision shooting. IIRC, the airweight version is called M-638, it has an anodized aluminum alloy frame, and a stainless steel barrel and cylinder.
The M-49 is chambered in .38 SPL. There is a newer model, the M-649 which is all stainless steel and is chambered in .357 Magnum.
Either of the three will make great pocket pistols. I wish the M-649 had been in the case the night I bought my M-640, I would have bought it instead of the M-640.

This is my favorite Pocket Revolver. Mine is quite accurate, and it does not snag. I can cock the hammer for accurate shooting. Avoid the "Centennial" with no hammer, for it is much less accurate. Fictional PI Travis McGee used this revolver.

I prefer the 357Magnum in this Model because it is a better choice and you can still shoot 38's in it.... Better man stopper....
