I have a 1998 chevy s10 LS and for about a 6 months i have been having problems with my speakers in my truck. The first time this problem happened, my speakers just shut off after going over bump in the road, however, my stereo was playing the cd still, but there was just no sound. Then the next day i go to start my truck and the music turns on, but either after i hit a bumb while driving, or even sometimes if im just driving they will shut off. They did this for like two weeks and then they worked for like 2 months just fine. And now they are doing it again. The speakers will just shut off even if im just sitting in my truck and its in park. So i dont think it's a loose connection because it doesnt take a big bump in the road to stop them from working. If anyone knows what this may be, please let me know. And als o i have Clarion deck, but i don't think it would have much to do with the stereo, since it still plays even after the speakers shut off.

How do you pull your deck out? Do i need a certain tool to pull it?

This is usually a symptom of a shorted or grounded speaker wire. Check the wiring behind the deck; if a speaker wire is pinched behind the head unit and shorting on the deck chassis, it will cause exactly the problem you're describing.

Sounds like you have a loose connection. Could be either a ground wire, or primary. The vehicle doesn't necessarily have to hit a bump, either, if you have a bad/intermittent ground, it will go out when it feels like it. You need to check all your connections. It could be a pinched wire as well. Easiest way is to find the harness to the radio or deck, where all the connections are, and with the radio on, jiggle them gently one at a time, see if any cut-out occurs. if not, maybe a little harder. then check your speaker ground connections. If your speakers aren't securely bolted in, they may not have a good ground ( not just the wires ). Simply because you have power to the deck, doesn't mean the speaker connections thru it are good, either.

Well, it could be possible that the wires are touching somehow and shorting out. Check all your connections just to be sure..you never know. And it may be loose. If a wire's sitting funny, the pressure pushing against it may force it out.

If that's not the case, pull the door panels off and look at your speakers anyway. They may be going bad, in which case, you might hafta replace them...

clarions have a special protection on them they are sensing one of the speakers are no good! try to unhook them all and hook one of the speakers at one time untill it shuts off then there you will know.
