let's say my sister, who is an american citizen, petitions me for a greeen card and the petition is accepted. Then I would have to wait for a couple of years for a visa number to get the green card. IF I'M INSIDE THE COUNTRY WHEN SHE petitions me and the petition is accepted, can I wait inside the country and get employment authorization and work even though I have to wait to get a visa number and get the green card??

No, absolutely not.

What good would the waiting list be if you could just stay here and work? Are you even here legally? If you overstay a visa you might be unable to immigrate.

You can NOT adjust status and stay here. You are not first preference. You are in the 4th preference. Your wait will be from 11 to 23 years, depending on what country you are from. You are on a quota. Look it up for yourself.....

If your I-130 has been approved, you will need to file an adjustment of status I-485 and can request a work permit. an I-765, at the same time while in the US
That usually will be approved 3 months after you filed for your adjustment of status paperwork. Both apps cost a total of $ 545.00 to file.

yes...as long as you have applied for and been approved for an I-485/work authorization(i believe thats what it is called)as long as you already have filed for your visa or greencard you should be approved.
