Just wondering if this is common thought still. And please tell me what part of scripture refers to this?

I don't think Mary was a prostitute, however there is confusion over a passage in Luke where a woman who led a sinful life washed Jesus' feet with her tears, some perfume, and wiped them dry with her hair.

Evidently, the same thing happened in John's gospel where Mary of Bethany did the same thing of anointing his feet with perfume and wiping it with her hair, but the setting was different.

I think the two similar events in which one was named Mary accidentally gave Mary Magdalene a bad reputation.

There is a lot of confusion in the Christian world regarding the women in the New Testament. The most commonly jumbled are Mary of Magdala, Mary of Bethany, the woman "sinner" who washed Jesus' feet, and the woman "taken in sin" who was brought to Christ. There is nothing specifically in the Bible to imply that these women are anything other than four separate people.

Mary was a very popular name in the Bible. Mary Magdalene was not the Mary who was the prostitute. There were many many Mary's in the Bible.

There is no literal reference in the canonized scriptures that she was a prostitute. She was a repentant sinner but the nature of the sin is not artiuclated.

All I know is that Mary Magdalene was saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. Is there anything else that is more important?

It's more of a legend, or a deduction, but let's be fair to her...
They don't mention what her sin was, but she sure went to the right Guy to get saved!
Jesus is Lord. He's not a sinful man.
The Bible says He "was tempted in all manner like we are, yet without sin."
