Alright.......... I'm 5'4 and one half inches. I weight normally around 134 pounds, and I wear normally a size 7 or 5 in juniors, and a 6 in womens. Am I fat? I think I could lose at least 20 pounds....

Oh yeah, I do have some muscle. I'm quite muscular in my arms, and my legs.

Some people might say you are fat, but you arent. A size 5 to 7 is nice. You dont have to be built like a pencil and wear a size 1 or 2 to be thin.

No.

While you may think you are, it is the media and the photo retouched pictures of skinny models that cause you to think you are fat.

That weight could be due to your muscle tone. Muscle weighs more than fat.

Concentrate on keeping yourself healthy - not what the style magazines say you should look like. Clothes vary from brand to brand a 7 in one style may be a 5 in another or a 9 in another. The size is not a good way to interpret what is going to look good and feel right.

I'm a lot heavier than you. I wish I could get back to 145.

That is actually ideal for your height. If you loose 20 pounds you could look too skinny and my actually be at an unhealthy level for your body. I am no expert yet I do think you should talk to a doctor about what is ideal for your body, no just your height. I look a little slim but I am 5 ft and weigh the same as you. My ideal weight for my height is between 98 and 128 pounds. I would no worry too much.

Anyone who wears between a size 5-7 cannot be considered fat by any standards. If you think you would look better twenty pounds less and you can do that without hurting your health, then go for it. But, I will repeat, you are NOT fat.

Hi Rae,
It's all on how you think YOU look. Don't give into the standard by models or what others say. You should NOT lose 20 lbs just because you think you're fat. I would give anything to be 134 again and no, you're NOT fat.
To me, I think you would look FABULOUS in whatever size you are. It's all on how you look inside as well as out.

Love, Heather

no, you're not fat. you may have some "fat rolls" or whatever, but that weight for your height is not classified as overweight. If you feel like losing 5-20 pounds would make you feel more comfortable about your body then do it.

Someone of your height, 5'4'' can be:

108-145 pounds and stil be classified as a healthy weight.

Healthy weight for women on average is said to be 100 lbs for someone 5 feet tall and 5-7 lbs for every inch over, depending on your bone structure. Sounds like you're fine where you are. Maybe try some toning.

Sounds like you're fine. Weight is actually irrelevent; body composition is the more important measure when guaging whether you need to lose or gain anything.
