I got a free zippo in the mail from Marlboro and thought it was pretty cool. Now my boyfriend teases me every time I use it saying "oh you're big and bad" or "you're butch". I am like, whoever said it was for guys? I am a very feminine woman by the way and yes I know smoking is terrible for me, but I just want your opinion on the zippo.

He's teasing you because he thinks it's sexy.

Most guys like to see a hint of masculinity in even the most feminine girls. Think of movies made for men where you see the reserved, respectable business woman.. on the weekend in a ripped tshirt and jeans working on cars. I'm not a guy, so I really can't explain where it comes from, but it exists. Either he thinks it's sexy.. or he wants to make you uncomfortable with your lighter so you give it to him :P

Seems like the history of Zippo's fame has to do with soldiers and war, and the fact that the lighter is nearly indestructible; it used to be that any damaged Zippo would be replaced, even if run over by a tank during battle. OK, yes Zippo has a masculine history, and perhaps your boyfriend has some personal issues. LOL

Masculine, yes especially if it has Marlboro on it, think Marlboro Man.... But if you really like the zippo, go to your local cigar store and you should be able to find a more feminine lighter. I used to smoke and had a Marlboro zippo and could never get used to the "look" of it. I went out and got myself a cool one that had a picture of something I liked on it. But I have to throw this out there, quit smoking it is soooo bad for you. ;o)

It was most popular in the 60's and 70's. I see nothing wrong with it. It will probably cost less to use over the long run.

If you're feminine, it's probably a cool contrast.

And when you quit smoking, you can still use it to light candles. That's it... that's my lecture.
