Many atheists on here act like evolution can disprove God. Well, God and evolution are two totally different ideas. It's kind of like using a banana to disprove an orange. I don't know if I believe in evolution or not, I've been searching, but this doubt has nothing to do with my religion. It's just a lack of evidence on my part.

So, why do some of you guys try to use it against us? Maybe a few of us see this differently, but not most.

Just to send the message across........ peAce.

Armand Steel,
I have no clue whatsoever what this has to do with my question, but I believe the first people (Adam & Eve) were made 6,000 years ago (From clues & generations hinted in the Bible)
But the Earth could be billions of years old. Either way, mankind didn't just come as soon as the Earth was created.

OK Armand. I get it. Yeah, I think that's what I believe.

I belive in evolution and god, the two do no contradict one another. intelegent design could have been an inital trigger for evolution. I think god caused evolution, everything has to progress, and god helps things grow and progress. God is like a gardner, and liveing things are like flowers.(that is a comarison not to be taken litterly for those of you who are slow...) science and religion agree, most people don't seem to see the ways they agree but they do in alot of ways. So there can be religion and science, and people need to stop argueing about it because they are all right..

Like others here have said, if you believe the bible is an accurate historical account, then evolution is a huge threat to Christianity. That's why Christians go to great lengths to deny evolution as fact. If the world is 6,000 years old, evolution cannot be true. The literal interpretation of the bible and evolution cannot coexist. Evolution being fact has no implications for a God existing or not existing though (just not the one described by the old and new testament).

I totally agree with you actually. I am an atheist and I don't think evolution disproves god. I don't believe in god because I do not have faith, not because of Evolution. Evolution is a theory of how life came about on Earth. There is lots of evidence to support the theory of Evolution, but it doesn't disprove god. Now to be fair, a lot of people don't think it disproves the possibility of god so much as it contradicts the Bible. Therefore they believe it disproves the Bible.

Probably because. when study against actual proven historical facts, the bible seldom holds up. Its geography, chronology, and medical explanations are many times incorrect and often contradictory. Many theist choose to only address certain passages that do make sense while leaving others that are blatantly flase, misleading, or ambiguous to fall to the wayside. As Christian theist believe - the bible is the unerring word of God - just as the bible strictly announces that one day after creating the heavens, earth and beasts, god created man. It is scientific fact that this is not the case. While evolution/modern science certainly does not disprove god - it does dispell many if not all of the Judeo Christian texts and beliefs.

Actually, you think in exactly the way we WANT you to think! We have not, nor have we EVER, tried to use evolution for the PURPOSE of disproving God. What people who accept the theory of evolution are so frustrated by is the very FACT that so many believers make it into a religious issue. We don't think of it as a religious issue at all. We think of it as a scientific issue, and it drives us crazy that people who have no problem accepting any other area of science, are so quick to completely dismiss any possibility of evolution being a fact, and completely ignore the mountains of evidence pointing to evolution, because they say it disagrees with a chapter in their religious book. We wish ALL believers would understand that evolution is NOT a religious issue, just as you realize it.

Not all of you. Only the fundies who insist the earth is only 6,000 years old.

Edit: What I was trying to say is for the bible literalist who says the earth is only 6,000 years old, then yes evolution does threaten your beliefs, but if you believe in god had a guiding hand in evolution then evolution in no ways threatens you're beliefs. If you still need me to interprit that, then too bad cause I'm gone.

It's not your fault. there are two types of religious people (in this case christians) there is the kind that respect your beleifs and won't try to convert you and there is the rude ones that can't even follow their own religion and try to bash anyone who dosn't think the way they do. The reason why atheists assume evolution is a threat to christianity is because the rude atheist bashing wannabe christians gave there people a steryotype. It same situation with the generalization that all black people love mentos or all asians are geniuses.

Your position is distinct from many participants in this forum, who (correctly) see a direct conflict between evolution (now a proven fact) and the biblical tales. Of course, if you choose to believe in a god, you are quite at liberty to suppose that evolution was the mechanism that god used to create the present diversity of life. The problem with this idea is that it is provably useless: it can't predict anything, so there is no point to it, even though it could be quite correct.

i believe that evolution is only true a little bit. i'm a christian and it's not about to change but i do believe that evolution has occured a little bit. what has occured has been guided by god. i mean. evolution states that something can only come out of something right? something had to create that first thing that slowly evolved right? who else but god? i do believe in the whole adam and eve thing though.

Please don't generalize. I have never seen evolution as being anti-God, but merely non-committal. I agree with Dawkins that the theory made it possible to be an intellectually fulfilled atheist. However, it does not disprove God by any means.

I see evolution as a threat to the beliefs of biblical inerrantists, but then they seem to be threatened by reality in general.

Notice that The Patrician asked about *some* theists, and it's certainly true that *some* theists view evolutionn as a threat to their faith.
