if you believe in it, it becomes real for the believers
however, for those who do not believe, they are stress free and don't look at world thru polarized glasses of "us/them" or sinners/dammed and the believers/elite
hell is actually when we don't talk and fight all the time, hate and kill, and are miserable thanks to the religions that give us the reasons to not love and hurt others
heaven is when we communicate, love and be kind to each other, it is also now, it is also something that can be lost thanks to our actions/inactions

Natural Commander, you do not want to go to hell. Look at it this way; if it cost the Son of God His life to keep people out of hell, it must be pretty serious. Jesus describes it as "eternal flames & outer darkness". Even if these are "only" symbols, remember, a symbol is always weaker than what it portrays. So if the "symbol" is described so terribly, one can only imagine how awful the real place is. The Lake of Fire was originally created for the devil and his angels. Not for people. Satan and his angels go there by Divine decree. Man is the only creature in the universe foolish enough to go there by choice. Everyone who has ever lived and made "jokes" about hell regreted it a split second after death. Jesus talked more about hell than He did about Heaven. If people only knew how NOT funny the subject is. There are many who deny the existence of it. Doesnt matter. That does not change the fact of it one iota. It Exists. It's Horrible. It's to be Feared. Per Jesus. It was not a joking matter to Him. ANY reason for turning to God is better than the alternative. Even if turning to Him, if only to avoid hell. That shows how merciful He is. He will even accept us under those conditions. Jesus said, "What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul". Now concerning Heaven, the Bible says in 1Cor 2:9 that we cannot even imagine the things that God has prepared for them that love Him. That means, that however wonderful a person can imagine Heaven, it's actually going to be better than that. Seek Him now, while there is still time. "You will seek Me, and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart".----God (Jeremiah 29:13).....theBerean

Hell is in the middle of the earth.Sinner's(anyone who doesn't repent, and accept Jesus as Lord) go there for a thousand years, then they face the great white thrown judgement, then they, hell and all evil are to be thrown into the lake of fire to be tormented forever! The reason why christian's want to go to heaven is because they by accepting Jesus into their heart have had the love of God put into their heart by the Holy Spirit! They know, have the knowlegde by the Holy Spirit, that heaven is going to be more awesome then they can even imagine. It actually even says that in the bible.Hell, and the lake of fire, are also reallly unimaginable in their horrible torrment. The only clues we have, about either place is what God told us in His word the bible.Try to understand this: Hell is such a horrible place, that in "John 3:16 -God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that no one should die forever but have eturnal life".When people go after death to hell,it's by personal choice because they were not willing to take God's word of warning in the bible.People have the choice to worship God or be their own God.Only 1 God can save.

According to the Bible, hell is not here on earth; it is eternal pain and torment with no possibility of relief. It's worse than anything you've ever imagined. Also according to the bible, heaven is perfection and eternal peace with no possibility of pain.
As far as I know, no person has ever been to hell or heaven then returned to tell us how it was. I also believe that God created hell and heaven, so He must know what they're like. I trust a knowing God over ignorant people any day.
Seems like an easy choice to me.
Good question. Thanks for honestly asking. I hope you honestly read answers.

I definitely do not want to be in Hell. With the grace of God I will see and live in Heaven. Hell is real and you do not want to experience it. It is not going to be fun as lots of people think. Read Matthew 5, Matthew 16, Matthew 23, Mark 9, Luke 12, James 3, 2 Peter 2, REVELATIONS 21. God Bless

EVERYONE who has ever lived will be Eternally in Heaven or Hell. They arrive there based on their answer to this one question: "What shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ"?
Will you accept Him as Savior and Lord, or will you reject Him for all Eternity?
Now as to your question, Hell is NOT on earth. In fact, where it is, is less important than what it is.
Hell is Eternal separation from God who loved YOU enough to send His Son to die in your place.
Hell is NOT what you think you know, or even what you could imagine.
Think of this... in Eternity, you will have a perfect body. In the Eternity of Heaven, you will love perfectly, have perfect pleasure, joy, and there will be no sorrow mourning or pain. Your perfect body will respond to the surpassing happiness of all that God has prepared for you.
But in Hell, just try to imagine having the worst possible toothache along with the worst possible headache and being able to know what it feels like to have every bone in your body broken all at the same time.
Imagine having incurable cancer ravaging your perfect body, your perfect body that can never be destroyed, but can perfectly feel the intense pain forever.
Perfect does not mean invincible.
Perfect means being able to know the worst kind of every pain, sickness, cancer, aids, every kind of misery ever inflicted upon humanity. All at the same time with NO hope
of relief no hope of comfort, and with the full understanding that it will all continue for all Eternity.
And then know this for sure, all of the suffering mentioned above will not be as bad as knowing that all you had to do to stay out of Hell was say YES to Jesus Christ who gave His life so you wouldn't have to come to this place.
The true Hell is wanting to be with God and knowing you missed your chance. And all because you thought you knew better than some guy on Yahoo Answers or many faithful preachers God sent your way as you lived.
All I've said above is kindergarten compared to what Hell will really be like. You would wish it would be no worse than I've described.
Hell is a bad place. Don't go there. Give your heart to Christ while there's still time.

well First off you will not stay in hell, all of those in hell will be cast into the lake of fire later on..
Hell being a place where the spiritual bodies go, for now, and it is always indicated as down, so we think of the center of the earth, which is hot.. But your physical body does not go there..
Those in hell are judged at the great white throne judgment.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

"Do you believe this?"
About the only thing I truly believe about heaven is that it will be infinitely greater than anything I have the capacity to imagine.
"Is the prospect of possibly coming into visual distance with God your reason for wanting to go to heaven?"
That may be part of it, but I think there is much more to it than that, such as thanking Him for all He has given me (and I mean spiritually).
"I would rather be in the hell I know than the heaven I don't."
Where's your sense of adventure? ;O)

Hell is below. There were some people that were taken alive into Hell. the earth opened and swallowed them up. The things of God come only by faith. I can understand your feelings of being out of your comfort zone. God is spirit and must be worshiped in spirit and truth. I know that God will constantly shake, challenge, and work to mature and perfect me. The presence of God is the most glorious experience I've had. He is Holy and I know in His presence s fullness of joy. I want to do everything I can to do His will and be with Him forever.

Hell is real place, and it's fire is very real. A minute of having a flame exposed to an arm would be grievous - can you imagine a year of your whole body on fire? That's only a year! We are talking about forever! When a million years go by you will only be in the beginning of the punishment. You will only have tasted a drop of what is to come. Oh... what a terrible thought! Oh R/S reader - flee from the wrath to come. Open your Bibles and pray that God would have mercy - before it's to late!

As far as the current life that we have ,I think it is a testing ground. I would like to think there is a place that will truly be free from all needs/wants with the added bonus of great knowledge.Just think you would know what was going through Brutus' mind as he stabbed Cesar his oldest friend and supporter.
Thusly if you believe in total good you have to include total evil, reward/punishment.
