My 13 week old puppy has been been throwing up and has had diarrhea all day long. I plan on taking him to the vet first thing in the morning but I was wondering if someone can tell me if they think it's Parvo. He has had one set of shots so far. His diarrhea and vomit doesn't smell that bad, doesn't smell good either. I just remeber reading that Parvo has a "cancer" smell, like death. His gums are grey and his stool is a pastey light brown/greyish. His belly is bloated. Could it just be a bad case of worms? I need to know if this sounds like Parvo, because I have another puppy that I don't want to see get sick too. If it is Parvo any ideas on how to prevent the other from getting it? Thanks to all in advance

keep the puppies seperated. Take the puppy to the vet first thing. Tell them ahead of time that you think it may be parvo. Carry the dog into the vet... DO NOT LET HIM TOUCH ANYTHING that may come in contact with other dogs. I've never seen parvo. I hope that isn't what you are dealing with, but don't take any chances! Make sure you encourage your puppy to drink pleanty of water. I would even take him to an emergency vet NOW if you have one in your area. He sounds like he is very sick and needs help. Grey gums aren't good.

It doesn't sound like parvo. A freind of mine had a puppy with parvo, he would not eat or drink and as the others said he only passed blood. I have heard on an emergency vets episode that you feed raw egg and it helps IF it is parvo with the dehydration. But you should still call the vet immediately!! Because the disease will stay with anything the pup touchs. You should let a vet tell you what it is in this situation!!!

Sounds like Parvo. Not Worms.
My lab puppy had parvo at 10 weeks old. My vet sent me home with an IV bag, which we used 1 time a day. All we had to do was to give him 150cc's a day. The vet will show you how to do this. As long as you use a new needle each time, and ensure that the needle remains sterile, you are fine. Also, your vet can give you antibiotics along with it. Make sure you continue the antibiotics. My vet also gave us a medicine to help settle the stomach and slow down the vomiting.
Don't worry about your puppy eating any food right now. The important thing is to keep him hydrated. My vet suggested Gatorade and Pedialyte. If he won't drink himself, get a small syringe, and give it to him yourself. It is so important to keep fluids inside.
Make sure your puppy has a quiet place to rest. Parvo puppies like to sleep.
Another thing, BLEACH EVERYTHING that can not be thrown away. Throw away all his toys and buy new ones AFTER he recovers. Bleach his bedding, crate, and the floors. An extra boost is to also get an outdoor mat that holds a bit of water, and add Bleach to it so that as you go in and out of your house, you must step in the bleach. It helps kill the parvo. You track parvo on your shoes.
If after 2-3 days, your at home IV and antibiotics are NOT working, promptly RETURN to your vet. Your vet can offer IN HOSPITAL treatment at their clinic. There they will give your puppy a CONSTANT IV like we receive in the hospital.
My lab had to do both. He survived. It takes work and prayer.
I truly hope your puppy makes it through.
You are going to have to Totally seperate the two pups; but, it is best to go ahead and take precautions. If it is parvo and your other puppy gets it, it shows up withing 22 days.

Your vet may do hospitalization first and at home care second. Whichever, make sure you follow ALL directions. That is the only way of giving your pups a chance. Good luck.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me. I don't mind at all.

If it's parvo you can smell it, just like you said. Make the puppy drink reguardless. If you have to force it to drink do so.. get some pedialite (not the flavored kind) and make him drink it.

I've never seen a puppy throw up and have that bad of stool from just worms (and I worked in a store that unfortunately sold puppies, for years).

I wouldn't rule out either or. Just keep the sick puppy in a room away from the other one. Get lots of bleach and keep cleaning whenever he goes to the bathroom / throws up.

I would take him to the emergency vet tonight. Trust me, for the extra money the vet visit is, it's definitely worth it.

Definately parvo. My puppy had it before. She would hide under my bed, and not eat or drink and started to get real skinny. Saddest thing ever. I took her in and they suspected it was parvo. They gave her the same fluids you were talking about. It just sits under the skin in a giant ball until it is all absorbed. But I had to leave my pup at the vet for a week so they could get her through it. After that, she was the happiest and most playful puppy again.

Doesn't sound like parvo because the vomit and diarrhea usually contain blood if the dog has parvo. Get the dog to a vet ASAP and this much vomiting and diarrhea has probably already dehydrated the dog and this can be fatal.

My dog had Parvo when he was a puppy and He was very lethargic, refused to eat or drink, and when he did try to walk he was a little shaky. If you feel his gums and they are dry, he is extremly dehydrated, if you take him to emergency they will put him on an IV to rehydrate him, They a an also give you some antibiotics that can show immediate results. If you feed him a mixture of white rice, cottage cheese, and metamucil (unflavored) it will give him enough protein to provide him with the nutriets his body needs, but will also be gentle on his stomache, which will help with the vomitting.

Maybe worms cause one of my puppies had parvo and she wasn't able to go to the bathroom only blood came out it was horrible the vet had to put her down poor thing. Best thing to do is take BOTH of them to the vet when you go and get them both vaccinated. The vet can do the test and it won't take long. Are they both still eating?

Good luck and there are 24-hour emergency vet clinics in alot of cities. I would try to find one. If its parvo it doesn't take long for them to die from it and DON'T let them around any other animals and make sure to clean every thing they may have come in contact with with bleach. Parvo doesn't just go away or wash away easy it can infect more of your animals further on in the years

If your dogs gums are gray/white then he is already experiencing dehydration. DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE MORNING. GO TO THE EMERGENCY VET RIGHT NOW.
If it is parvo virus, he will probably die very soon if not treated.
I'm sorry! Absolutely keep the dogs seperated until you know what it is. Usually with parvo you will see bloody stools, but better to be safe than sorry. It could be an allergic reaction to a vaccination or he could have eaten something poisonous.
Dehydration is a fast killer too, please don't wait to go........
The morning may be too late.
Good luck!

I'd call the vet now! If you dont want the other pup to get it, you better get it away from the sick one. Dont even put that pup in the grass where the other one was. Parvo stays in the ground for like 7 years. Better get its shots right away too! good luck with your pups!!
