The criminals would still be the people that profess to be religious.

Where were the churches morals when the New World was being raped by the Conquistadors. Where were their morals during the inquisition. Where were the morals of all religions when Hitler was in power. Your argument atheist=no morals =anarchy is very flawed. Seems the fear of being punished in the afterlife didn't stop the religious people from being immoral. Good atheist and good religious people ( any religion) have one thing in common, to be good and respectful of other people. Good morals do not need to come from a book or church or fear of an afterlife.

No. I'd imagine that scientific research would ensue. And I'd say that most theists possess enough morality that punishment in the afterlife is not the only reason that they retain that morality. If that were the only motivation for someone to be moral, then the individual in question would be properly classified as a sociopath. Generally speaking, both theists and atheists have a sense of morality.

Are you implying that the dread of hell fire or its equivalent is keeping the check on some people? well that might be an insignificant percentage. There have been several cases of so called Men of God indulging in unGodly acts.
An atheist does not believe in the concept of the conventional God. However, just like in any society, some are highly ethical while you can not say the same of others.
Simply put, nothing might really change.

given the track record of "afterlife-fear" as deterrent, there seems to be moral behavoiur among atheistic societies which rate on a par with
most any theist society history has recorded.

btw: I's agnostic, unlike my anarchistic 'label'

You don't need religion to be a moral person. I think that the world would be run much better without religion. Too much of it gets injected into government and causes conflicts with other countries.

Yes, that's correct for the ones who don't have morals instilled in them. Some people need to be threatened in order to be moral.

two wrong assumptions first is that athiests are in some way less moral than deluded people second being an inability to understand that laws are not moral but logical.
